It looks like I didnt load those pics, took me an hour or more last night to post pics.
Thanks for th welcome and info. I'm on dial up and everything runs slow 'round here, mostly me tho.
So, I did a search for handloading info and just havent been able to narrow anything down. I load for two Marlins and a Contender in 30-30, so I have lotsa stuff, should I start another thread or does someone know of one that's already out there. Sure could use some advice on that but dont want to ask one of those 'not that again' questions, been down that muddy road before and dont want to go there again.
Thanks again,
Matt

It's a 30-30, so it'll take any factory or normally loaded 30-30 round. I don't know of any extra special loads for it, but mine have done well with 170gr bullets and H4895.

Greetings!

I've got only one 1899 now: .22 Imp, Perch-Belly, former Take-Down. A second year production for that chambering, I believe. The bore is dark, and does terrible things to jacketed bullets...
Dad has a pretty little Take-Down in .250.

Greetings, norm99!

Well, frankly, mine simply will not take down: forend comes off, but barrel will NOT twist off; Dad & I think that it was 'fixed' to the receiver, but we don't know how.
Sorry, I'm not completely in the Digital Age... No Photos. SN #1265xx, "22 H.P.". It's gone to grey, and has a Redfield Peep on the Tang. I had hopes of this being my "Jack/Coyote" Walking Rifle, but the bore is pretty bad, and it does nasty things to the Hornady 70 gr. bullets that I use. I'd really like to find a proper sleeve, and have it relined & chambered.
Perhaps someday...!

Be Well!

slow down Matthew... start a new post...

first off... make sure the action is open before taking down.... after that...if it won't take down... try using a large brass punch wrapped in electrical tape tapping against the cut out on the barrel bottom...

picture of subject ares would REALLY help us tell you if its a standard takedown.... please do so...

Greetings, norm99!

I don't have a Digital Camera at this moment... Sorry for being long winded, lovemy99; I'll attempt your suggestion, and post the results.

Be Well!

Do not know if I am doing this correct. First time on site and do not know how I got here. Was looking up information on some of my Dad's older guns. Trying to find a value and a good home.Started by looking up H & R Arms, as this is on a 16 guage that I was told was hand made, but that seems unlikely. Serial no.A49730. Could not find adate of manufacture. Dad born 1922 died 1997.Assume 1930's as he had it before his Savage, still here and in a case. It's a 99 Serial no.402997.The story goes on that one that Grandpa new and hunted with some members of the Savage Family. He lived in Galeton PA. As a 19th birthday present to Dad they help him get this, as most of their work was going over seas for the war.Have another 16 guage with Eastern Arms on it,and what I believe was his first gun, 22 single shot bolt action .22 that say Ranger on it.They (sons) were not allowed anything but sinlgle shot,You missed the animal won,you wounded you learn to shot straighter as you could be in the woods for a long time to find that animal and make it right. How to I go about finding a good home? As I do not know how I got here my personnal email :moparsanddinersyahoo.com Make sure you are behind the stock and what is out in front before you use the trigger!

Hi all,
I'm new to this site and am very happy I found it. I was gifted a savage model99 by my father-in-law, which belonged to his father, it has an almost straight butt stock ( end), sm. scope, front forearm slopes up with a small curve on the end. it has no letter designation on it but serial # 549XXX. caliber is 250-3000. I don't care about the value because it will be passed down to my son one day. I was just wondering an approximate date of manufacture or any other info which may be interesting.
Thank you,
Mike @ henderson fabrications

Welcome to the forum! Your rifle is a Savage 99EG, made in 1950. Great rifle, and the 250-3000 is a great deer cartridge.

Stick around, and while you're putting up with us, be sure to check out www.savagela.org. The pictures and hunting pictures sections are good ones to browse through.

Just got a model 99A in .300, if I read the descriptions right. Dad had it in his safe for many years. Shot five shells through it on the ranch, straight as an arrow at 50 yrds. Will try and get the pics up soon
