In Tn you can use any handgun that is at least .24 caliber with at least a 4" barrel. In other words a .25ACP with a 4" barrel is legal but a .44 magnum with a 3" barrel is not. Poorly written regulation.reflex264

My Lipsey's is apparently adequate for small whitetails. I too get about 925-950 fps with the "Skeeter Load" of 7.5 grains Unique. However, for this deer I used the Sheriff Jim Wilson "Improved Skeeter Load" consisting of 8 grains Univeral Clays for 1,000fps. This seems a bit more accurate and cleaner burning than the original.

The bullet used was cast from a mid-1960s Lyman 429421 and has the controversial round grease groove. After loading I add a hollowpoint with the Forster Hollowpointer. My alloy of wheelweights is too hard for much expansion but accuracy seems to be improved. This bullet broke the near shoulder, passed through and penetrated six inches of clay.

Your grips original? Thought they had black rubber grips.

Nice looking Special. Congrats on your hunt.

After using UC, never going back to Unique.

The Flat Top came with black rubber and I replaced them with rosewood grips from the Ruger store online. I have also added a Belt Mountain #5 cylinder Pin as the stock pin would unlock during recoil. Next stop is Bowen for a general slick up plus his sights.

NICE gun there, really a neat packin pistol.

Are Lipsey's ltd. run special marked? Just wondering if one would even know the difference between them and the new production model which I would think is identical.

Is quality control expected to be same on post Lipsey models anyone?

Thanks.

There are no special markings on the Lipsey's gun, at least none to identify it as a special run. They may or may not be identifiable by serial number - only 1,000 of the Lipsey's models were made - but I suspect Ruger will just continue the serial number line. Could be completely wrong on that as it is pure speculation. They do use the same 520 prefix from the .357 Anniversary models so I figure that designates the mid-size frame.

As to quality control, who knows? We know their .44 Spl chambering reamers have only been used 6,000 times so they're still almost new. wink As stuff wears the tolerances may get slack. But they've been making .44 Magnums for decades and all of those I've owned since 1972 have been pretty good.

One thing for sure is they sure as heck are nice revolvers.

I have never heard bad reports on Blackhawks, most owners have reported very good accuracy and cyl. gap seemed tighter often the similar smiths, and speeds i.e. a 4 5/8" 41 mag would equal a 6" Smith. Not a bad thing, w/good accuracy to boot.

Thanks.
