Today, I dropped by Doc's Gun Shop in Carrollton to spread some Christmas cheer and was told that "my friends" .405 WCF was not ready yet and that he had been asking "when?". Seems that shortly after Doc finished the throat job on my .405, another customer came in for the same work on his. He is also having Mark slick up the furniture while the rifle is tied up.
Small world, that here in Big D there are multiple folks using the same gunsmith to throat a .405 to handle the 400 grain bullets properly.

My move to the country has kept me too busy to take my .405 to the range and chrono the two different 400 grain loads (TAC and N133) I made up for it. I hope to remedy that soon.

It's apparantly a great conversion and I have a client that gets right at 2100 FPS with a 400gr. Woodleigh soft or solid in his Win. 95..That has a lot of appeal to me.

My Win. 95 SRC is a 30-06 but it shoots the 220 gr. Woodleigh and Sierra very well indeed.

Will do. My move to the country is mostly over and I plan to do som shooting as soon as the weather allows.

Try the top one .411, 396 gr NEI, 2000 fps no sweat and a lot cheaper than jacketed.

What's the proper length of time to get what would seem to be simple work done? I wanted to have a recoil pad installed and have the Redfield reciever sight installed.
I asked to gunsmith when I dropped the rifle, recoil pad and reciever sight off, and was told four weeks. I waited six weeks and called. Not done!
So I asked how much longer and was told a couple more weeks, so I waited three or four and called. Still not done
I told the gun smith to set it out and I'd be there to pick it up in a week or so.
Still don't have a recoil pad and reciever sight.

The stock was to short for me on my Win. 95 SRC, and that simi cresent butt isn't condusive to a recoil pad, so I jerked it off to keep it original and made myself a shotgun butt stock with a nice kick Eze recoil pad with a 14 inch pull..It really feels good now...and it handles those 220 gr. Noslers recoil real well. All you have to do is screw the receiver sight on, its already drilled and tapped for one, if its a mondern 95 like my SRC is...
