I would say a Nikon prostaff 3x9. Simple, rugged and accurate. They sale for somewhere around 140.00.

I'd take a long look at the new Redfield 3-9x40, it's in your price range and everything I've read on this scope so far has been excellent.good luck.........547.

Follow the Internet sales. Early last year I purchased a Bushnell 2-7X36 w/Firefly for $119 with a free rain jacket. I would consider this scope adequate on a non-magnum. Really purchased just for comparison & doubt that I would ever use on a hunt. Lots of post Christmas sales will be available.

i just bought my second bushnell legend. around $150 or so and has great clarity and eye relief. 2-7x32 is light and compact and is my go-to until it gives me a reason not to.
can't tell a quality difference between these and the leupold rifleman series.

Vortex Crossfire 3x9x42 with a lighted dot reticle, hands down. I have two of them, each on a Mod. 70. Clear, sharp and repeatable, they are a great scope at any price. At $149 they are a steal.

goodshot,
Whenever someone wants to purchase an inexpensive scope for such a flat shooter as the .270 I suggest the 4-14X Tasco World Class. For me the value is just not there to spend more unless you jump up to the Bushnell 6500's. That, of course, is a major jump in price.
I use them and give them as gifts.

No doubt my choice as well. I have two 3-9 Burris with the BP in it. They're cost effect, tough as nails, clear, the clicks are repeatable. Take a look at them, if you look around you should be able to buy a new one for sub 200. Best of luck to ya Dober

I would also vote for the 3-9x FFII.
The new Redfield is also good, but I have only had a chance to test one so far, and have used a bunch of Burris FFII's over the years.

The 3200's are OK scopes, and if you hunt in damp weather a lot the Rainguard feature can be helpful. But I have found the FFII's a little better optically, and I like the simplicity of the Ballistic Plex.

The other scope I like for sub 200 bones is the K6 that is made these days. I have a couple of them and really like em.

I'm a Weaver fan (and user) when it comes to inexpensive decent quality in new stuff. (I don't shrink in the face of used stuff, though, either.) I run K2.5s on two #1s; the 45-70 is not gentle, but Weaver seems to handle it fine.

Just got a Sako A7 .270wsm.......what is the best scope under 200.00 you guys would suggest? If JB and Dober are on the Burris II boat it must be a good one. I can say that for my money I'll take a Weaver K 4x or 6x anyday over a Bushnell,Nikon or Leupold at that $200 and under price. Real interested to see/read more about the Redfields performance and offerings..

FF II as well, if you are looking for a 3X9
Weaver K6 is a dandy 6X
Both are quality way above their price, have several of each, if I was logical would sell everything else

Yeah, the new Weaver K6 is also a good one--and by the way, Burris also offers a fixed 6x FFII. It is also real good. I have had one for years, with whatever their heavier plex-type reticle is called, and have shot a pile of game with it. Right now it is on my .300 Weatherby Sub-MOA.
