Some weeks ago, a forum member, jinkgraph I think, mentioned talking with a person who was having a .405 double rifle made by a gunsmith in north Louisiana. A recent post on Leverguns.com may have identified that gunsmith as Clark Custom guns - it seems they are making doubles in several popular calibers. Here is link to a video that demos the .405 WCF version. Please note that they are getting 2150 fps with 400 grain bullets - enjoy: http://guntalk.tv/gtv/library.php?category=58&video_id=396&cache=Sun%20Jan%2010%2010%3A42%3A17%20CST%202010 Here is a link to their web site: http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/DblRifle.html Has anyone seen or shot one of these Clark rifles?

For the money there are better factory made rifles out there. Merkle and Chapuis even put pistol grips on their stocks unlike this shotgun conversion. Try hanging on to that straight grip with a 450 to 500 Nitro!

I saw a .405 and a 45-70 at the DSC show this weekend. They looked like Stevens 311 shotguns with rifle barrels- not exactly what I would look for in a DGR. They do great work on handguns and I assume ARs, but I was not impressed with the double rifles.

Looks like one of the new CZ shotguns to me with rifled barrel inserts. Not my idea of a double rifle to trust one's life on. For a Wannabe who only wants to play with one, OK if ya got $5,000 to throw away. I have seen good used doubles of good heritage go for $8-9,000.00 so if it were me (and it might be someday) I would keep the 5K and keep on saving for a GOOD or maybe I should say REAL double rifle.

All good points about there being other good choices for the money. It may be as the man says, the main interest seems to be in doubles in .405 caliber, and since no one else is making doubles in .405, he has some customers for that. I, too would like to see the CZ shotgun to rifle (done with barrel inserts and added sights) be priced much lower. For now, I will stick to my 1895 Winchester in .405.

There's a JP Sauer German .405 double rifle listed on Gun Broker now. I held it at a show and it's pretty nice.

I would think that for 5K they could give it wood that works for a rifle, not keep the original CZ shotgun wood on it.
I might be missing something, but I do not see a real role in the hunting world for a double rifle in .405 Win.
