No problems whatsoever with feeding... it was an amazing deal dollar-wise. Glass and all I don't have $700 into that rifle...

Huh? Please explain this statement. I don't follow.

It's good thing for you guys,I don't know how to post photos, the temporary Parker-Hale stock I put on,induces the gag reflex. And I toned it down. I do have good blank for it.

Here's my pair of 338-06's.

Top one is a Rem 700, Pac-Nor 22" fluted barrel, McMillan Mt Rifle stock, Birdsong finish. Topped with a Leupy VXIII 2.5-8 in ultra low rings. Weight is 7.25# as it sits in the pic. The weight is about perfect IMO. Originally the barrel wasn't fluted, but I had it done to get the weight down. I really like this rifle, as it feels like an extension of me when hunting. Fit is perfect and points very naturally.

Bottom one is a Rem 7600. I replaced the factory Monte carlo synthetic stock with a B&C stock. The factory stock just didn't fit me, and was tough to use with the open sights. Weight is 8# even as it sits in pic. Topped with a Leupy M8 4x with a German #1 reticle. I replaced the front sight with a fiber optic. In the past I have removed the scope and rear sight and used a williams peep sight to play around with at the range.

Both shoot to the same POI with Hornady 200gr SP and Nosler 210gr Partitions. But my favorite load for the 700 is a 210gr Barnes TSX @ 2800+ fps.

I have G33/40 action in my safe and am thinking about building a nice wood/blue 338-06. I would try to get the exact same weight as the 700 or slightly lighter. But I don't know If I could hit the mark with a classic wood/blue build. Of course it would get topped with a Leupy 2.5-8. Then I would have a trifecta of 338-06's.

Mine is a
Rem 700 action
McMillan Stock regular fill(36 ozs)
Lilja #4 at .670" muzzle at 23" no flutes
Kahles 3-9x42 Helia Kx.

It weighs 8lbs 6ozs. Handles great and recoil is very manageable. Shoots 225 Accubinds at about 2675 into 1/2 inch. I have not killed anything with this gun yet. Waiting for the right moment.

Mine's the AI version of the 338-06.

Rem 700 S/S
22 3/4" Rock barrel, .650" muzzle
Edge Classic stock
2.5-8 with the B&C reticle
It'll go 7lbs 7 ozs if/when I put the Talleys on

Aalf and Crs some nice looking rigs there!

I'd guess all up (sling and rounds) Aalf that rig of yours will be right at 8 lbs sling depending. IMO that's a very nice weight for a OKH.

Mark,

Factory rifle. Weatherby SBGM with leupold bases and rings. Leupold 3x9 compact. The scope may be changed to a VX2 in 3x9 which I guess would bring the gun a couple of ounces over 7lbs. Then I could go to Talley LW's and get back to 7lb.

As to recoil, I'm not big into recoil(especially the older I get) but must say the Weatherby stock design makes it very manageable especially off the bench.

I can't believe the 338-06 is marketed more! Could you imagine a 700 Ti, Browing X-Bolt, Browning BAR, Kimber LA in 338-06? I would go broke :-)

Indeed. I love my Savage but the "magnum taper" barrel, even at only 22", is a beast. I must admit that I've had more than one thought on puttting together a light-weight, ultra-carriable rig on an Interarms Mark X with a Shilen #2 taper 24" barrel and Bansner stock...

Along with a 9.3x62 to match my 9.3x57 wink of course!

My Savage built 338-06 weighs in at 8.5 lbs. Used to be about 10lbs before I had the barrel re-contoured. Feels very nice now.
