I've read a number of posts where N165 has been recommended in the 280 Ackley Improved. I finally picked up a pound and am interested in getting some recommendations for starting loads with the 140gr Barnes TTSX. If anyone is shooting this combination, I would love to hear more about your loads.

I had a hard time trying to find N165 for my 280AI.I did find a load that it really likes,60grs. of Ramshot Hunter,WLR primers and the Hornday 139gr Interlock bullet. It shoots 3/8in groups if I'm up to it.I've shot several deer and hogs with it and most were bang flops.I hope you find what you're looking for and enjoy the rifle.Skeeter

I started and ended with RL22 for my 280AI, with both 140 and 150 TTSX I've gotten good velocity and great accuracy. If you haven't tried RL22 it may be worth your time.

Start with 60 and work up with a 140 grain pill. You will probably see things come to life somewhere between 62 and 63.5 grains of N165.The Accurate site has good data on this.

As stated if 165 does not work for you give RE22 a try. I use it for everything from 120gr to 168gr out of my 280AI

N165 is absolutely worth trying as a possible better option. I have been around several of these and never witnessed anything other than great results. The velocities are very good at 3200 fps and brass life with max charges is outstanding. I ran 63.5 grains with Nosler 140 projectiles, just drop back a bit, work up, and let her eat....
RL19 worked better than 22 for me when testing, and IMR4831 was my go to till I tested N165. RL22 is good, but there are some burn rates that exceed it. N560 would definately be on my short list as well if I still ownred a 280 AI.

If you're up fer somethin different, try the 140NAB with a charge of N 165 under it. Havent found anything yet the NAB wont do that the tsx/ttsx will. Good luck and hope you're as pleased as I have been with the N 165. Besides, Tim and 19 dead whitetails CANT be wrong.

Has anyone tried R17? I am waiting for the next slower version of this powder to come out. One of them should work well in the 280 Imp.
