I'm looking for a good load using 165 grainers in a 300 WSM. Thinking about a TSX or Accubond. I have W760, IMR 4350, RL22 RL25 on hand but buying a pound or two of powder is no big deal for a good load.

I have used the 168 TSX with VV N550 for 3140fps but am waiting to try RL17. I can get 3200 with that bullet in the Win Mag and it is suposed to work better in the WSM.

I tested some loads with RL-17 with 165gr bullets,I quit at 68.0grs.Ran out of time to test more had to get the rifle back to the owner.Speed was 3134fps and I have used RL-19 worked up to 69.3grs.Start low and work up for your rifle.

I'm running 64.5 grains of VVN550 with a 165 Interbond, WLRM, 2.86". M70 custom, 26" Pac-nor, 0.25" @100 yards.
My son's M70 likes 73 grains of R22, 165 Accubond, WLR, 2.86". Shoots in the 0.5" range. 24.5" Hart barrel.
Velocities of both loads are in the 3200s, no pressure signs.
These are both pretty much book loads. No fuss, no muss.
YMMV, be smart, work up....

With 165gr bullets in my 300WSM,I load 69.0grs of Reloader-22.It is the best load I have found in my rifle and was two grains below max for my rifle. My IMR-4350 load is 65.0 and it's 1.5 grains below max in my rifle.

The best load I have found when shooting either the 165 grain Accubond or the 168 Barnes TSX in my 300WSM is 67 grains of H 4350.

I use Winchester cases and Fed 215M primers. Either of those loads will give about 3150 fps and consistant 3/4 inch groups.

168TTSX's shot great with 66 grains of H4350, the 165 Speer boattails were also an accurate bullet.

I'm shooting 180's now, got some random 165's(and 180 Ballistic Tips) if any of you guys want 'em for a good price.

RL17 and H4350 work great in mine with 150's, I can get 3300-3375 pretty easy with those. I've not loaded any 165's yet but will rectify that in the next week or so.

I shot this 3-shot group Sunday out of my 300 WSM with 165 gr. TSX's, 58.5 grs. RL-15, Win. Brass, WLRM Primers. It should be running about 3050 fps.

Been a few years since I messed with a 300WSM,but chronographed a couple of loads in a SC M70 EW today;and checked my old notes on the cartridge.

Bobcat's load listed above peeked my interest because I was curious about the quicker powders in the cartridge so I loaded up with 58.8 of RL15 and 165 Sierra SBT; load was very accurate from my rifle's 24" barrel and gave about 2980 average over 6 shots.Temps here today were 33-34 degrees.

I also measured Federal 165 Fusions, and got a high of 3129,low of 3080 or so.

Both loads shot really well, provided I let the barrel cool after no more than two;the rifle shoots very tight;3 in a row opens the group.

I pulled the striker assembly from the rifle, and chambered the fired cases from each load;cases fired with the RL15 would drop right in,but those fired with the Fusions required considerable force to chamber.....

Looks to me like nothing is changed with the WSM's in the past 9 years or so;they are loaded to the gills to get the velocity they deliver.I suspect 165's are about done at 3125 or so;those getting more are likely leaning a bit hard on the cases IMHO.

Nice shooting Bobcat!

Bob, it's been about the same here temp wise. Ideal weather to be shooting. Shooting two and switching rifles is a good idea.

300WSM's at about 3/4 throttle aren't a bad thing either!
Dober got me to try some 190 Hornadys, shot great right off the bat with starting loads.
Clocked one shot yesterday and it was 2800fps. I was a little disappointed at first but it shoots and matchs up great with other loads so what the hell......(grin)

Sam that RL15 load is interesting cause like you say it's 3/4 throttle but easy on your body and very accurate to boot;and it's faster than a 30/06 straining a bit with the same bullet....

My old notes show about 3125-3150 with 72-R22-165 Partition...did not have time to try that today....

This rig is pretty neat....and the cartridge is nicely matched,as the 300WSM seems to balance perfectly from the standpoint of recoil/rifle weight, etc..not as light as a Montana but more comfy for me to shoot....with a 4X Conquest on board it is pretty slick....more messing around is in order....
