If you ever get up to the Trading Post in Kittery, Maine, they have an armory style gun department with hundreds of long guns on display that you may pick up and examine--at least the last time I was there. It's a good place to find most popular eastern woods guns such as 99s, Marlins, Model 94s etc.
Also, those smaller gunshops/hardware stores scattered throughout NY and PA hunting areas is another good place to find vintage rifles. However, it's been my experience that guns owned by farmers or people who live in rural deer hunting areas generally show signs of harder use and less maintenance than guns owned by city dwellers. There's an armory style gunshop up in Steuben County NY where I saw either a Marlin or a savage (don't remember which) fitted with a recoil pad made from a piece of tire tread.
The power to legislate is the power to destroy

It seems like most of the 336SCs are in the New England states. I have seen several in PA.

Sweet. Glad you found one. I like the looks of the 2/3 magazine.
I had my new to me .35 at the range today. The 35 rem's are such a sweetheart in the recoil department. Gotta love 'em

That's a fine looking Marlin!! I found one last month but it was only in 85% condition with a good bit of rust for $230 + tax. Nice ones are getting harder to find. How's it shoot? WFR

There are quite a few 35Rems up here in the woods of Eastern Canada too. It's an old time favoured bear and deer round in the bush camps - even used for moose by some. I just purchased this 336/35rem - this past week. It's a pre hammer block model made in 1975. The price was too good to pass on. It'll join my 336ER (356Win), 336LTS (30-30) and 336RC Marauder (35Rem) at the range and in the woods as opportunity arises.

I might be selling mine,it's a beauty,a couple of scratches on the stock, but other than that very low mileage,it's seen under 100 rounds, and has been a resident of the safe for about 15 years. I don't want to sell it but circumstances beyond my control might force it to be sold.

I know zip about Marlins, but my dad called today to say that he just picked up a 336 in 35Rem with a Simmons Aetec (2.5-10 maybe?) and that it was in decent shape, not great. He wanted to put some good sights on it and keep it in the truck for a knockaround gun. $250 cash was the price, so I figure he did okay?
Now with even more aplomb

I see you are moving to PA. You shouldn't have any problem finding one in PA. There are always a few for sale at the Valley Forge gun shows (southeast PA).

Here's an 35 Rem SD I bought off GB a while back. The original sling studs require a unique swivel set (came from Marlin on the deluxe models along with a leather sling) that I had to look long and hard for. Finally found a set of swivels in a parts box at a gun show. I'm looking for an original ADL in 35 Rem as its stable mate.

Bought this one off of GB. I like the older 336's with the slim forearm & full mag. tube. This is a '69 model. Gonna ditch the scope & see thru mounts (ugh) and add a Weaver K4 and give it to my Dad.

Doc, Bought it off GB from a fellow from Tenn back in 2007. If I recall correctly he had it listed without pics. He Emailed pics and I recognized a Deluxe right off. Believe it was $280 shipped, plus I had to pay an FFL as it is a '62 gun and I couldn't use my C&R. I was real happy with the deal. Big plus; not long after I was over at the Timonium gun show (not MACA) and found the correct swivels (on right) in a parts box:

Dons1,
My todays standards $280.00 is a steal. I need a front Marlin SC barrel band with the swivel stud installed.

I saw several 336 SC's this weekend at a gunshow ranging from $350 to $415. I paid $390 for mine and these were no where near the condition. Everyone I looked at had buggered screws!

Found my SC in a small gun shop maybe 5 years ago. Have always been of that habit, any time I find such a place during my travels, especially in rural areas.
336SC 35 Rem., very good condition: $200 w/box of new ammo
Such places are where I've found most of my long guns and hand guns over the past 40 years.
If three or more people think you're a dimwit, chances are at least one of them is right.

They are out there.

I have a "Mint" 336 Sc in 35 rem for sale. The 336sc is an early 50's waffle top with ballard rifling with no "D&T" holes for scope mounting. There is no indictaion on the back side of the receiver that a receiver sight was ever mounted, generaly once the receiver sight is removed there is amark on the bluing.
The rifle stock has not even been drilled for sling swivel studs.

I just picked up a 1952 (J prefix) ballad rifled 336 in .35 rem for $370. Condition was great and it had been well cared for.

A few are on GB this week, before Christmas there were only four or five. New manufactured from the factory are a few months out now with the relo. One of the shops I 'frequent' called the wholesalers and came up empty, the call to Marlin stated 'due to the factory relo and start-up'.

They turn up here in PA from time to time, because they were very popular back in the 50s and 60s.
Caught the tail end of an auction back in November, that featured about 80 firearms. Got there too late to buy anything, but ran into a buddy there. He said most of the stuff was in very good condition and much of it dated to the late 40s, 50s and 60s. The ol' gent having the auction, was in his early 80s.
People were still coming out of the house carrying rifles and shotguns (quite a long line in there, paying for them) when I got there, did note a few Marlin levers and a couple Rem. corkscrew pumps being taken to new homes.
I'd wager a few were in 35 Rem?
My departed huntin' bud's first deer rifle, was a new M336 in 35 Rem, bought after he got out of the Marine Corps in '68.
It's the only one of his deer rifles he never killed a deer with, since he bought his first M700 around 1970 and went the "bolt way" ever since then. That Marlin is around his widder's place yet, likely still in mint condition? Been trying to obtain a few of his rifles over the past 10 years and the ol' girl won't part with a thing.
If three or more people think you're a dimwit, chances are at least one of them is right.
