Recently acquired one of these. The older TopEject version. How does this caliber compare to other lever calibers, like the 356,444 etc.? Looks like a decent short range "bush-gun" on the surface. Anyone using one?

There was a guy from Minnesota at the old Shooter that used to post about using one. He was pleased with it. Do you reload? I ask because ammo might not be readily available. One of the reasons I started reloading is because I have a '94 in .32 Winchester Special.

Yes I do reload. The only factory load avaliable is the 200 gr Winchester, I believe. There are some "custom" loaders doing it also.I might have to pickup a set of dies and try this thing out.

rembo,I have a Marlin in 375.I picked it up last summer. It's was made in 1980.I reload for mine using H322 powder and a Hornady 220 FP bullet.I used this rifle to take a nice 8 pt buck in nov.If you reload and need brass MIDWAY has it instock right now.Don't try to fire form cases from 30-30 as the brass will be too thin to handle the higher preessure of the 375.I found mine to be quite accurate as it's shot a 1 1/8" group at 100 yds.It doesn't have quite the power of a 444 or 356 but it has more then a 30-30.The caliber should work fine on deer, black bear, hogs out to 150 yds.My opinion is it's a great brush cartridge.~~~~~~~~~~tom

Hey Guys!<P>I've also got a .375 in a Marlin, and will not ever trade it. Paco Kelly has written several articles about his Win Big Bore in .375.....you might check out what he has to say. You'll need to go to the archives to find these articles. Just an excerpt:<P><A HREF="http://www.sixgunner.com/paco/Default.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.sixgunner.com/paco/Default.htm</A><P>"WINCHESTER .375 LEVERGUNS"<P>by Paco<P>"If I ever went back to Africa...and the only thing that stops me is money...or the lack of it. I would certainly take two leverguns with me...a 444 and a 375 BB.....the third would be a handgun...454 Freedom Arms.<P>"Why the 375 BB? Because there is a bullet being manufactured when pushed from the Winchester Big Bore rifle with top loads would be deadly on all thin skinned game up to several thousand pounds in weight. Speers S/Spitzer 235 grainer is a top bullet for the levergun....I flatten the tip so it can be loaded in the tube. A simple load of... ReL#7 gives 2100 plus fps from my rifle...and thats Speers suggested load .....so its well below the top loads for the Big Bore. <P>"When considering large animals like big elk and moose, I have loaded the 235 gr jacketed bullet with ReL#7 in 38-55 brass. This gives both my rifles just under 2400 fps and 3000+ lbs. of energy! Anything in the Americas will fall to this load...remember we are talking about the Winchester Big Bore model 94 leveraction.<P>(Example of using .375)<BR>"This bullet was inserted into the butt...a very big butt at that...of a feral bovine bull in 1982 that was really fouling up a number of Black Angus breeding cows....I was asked to eliminate the problem.<P>At well over 125 yards I caught him sniffing around one of the breed cows.....The bullet cut his tail almost in half, going in...it ripped a four inch radial wound channel from the top of the hams to the front of the back legs (20 plus inches), then coned down to three inch radial thru to the back of the left lung along the bottom of it, and out the lower chest with a two inch exit. The animal turned at the shot...surprised....suddenly put its head down and fell. Never gaining its feet again...on the cattle scales topped it 1800 plus lbs....its the biggest critter I ever took with this round...but it shows what the 375 and the right reloads can do. That load gives just over 3000 lbs of muzzle energy." (end excerpt)<P>Enjoy your .375 Win!!!!<P>Later<P>Lobo in NM<BR>

Had a good day Saturday. I am a "traveling salesman" and had found a 98% condition, pre-angle eject, Big Bore 94 in .375 Win at a pawn shop in Fayetteville NC this past week. As I already have one I told my next-door neighbor (who had offered to buy mine in the past) about it. He went to Fayetteville and bought it and he and his son shot it yesterday - they are tickled to death. I have the pleasure of adding one more hunter back into the levergun ranks! Already signed him up in the NRA, next I will teach him how to reload. Odessa<BR>

Lots of people use A.O. ghost rings and like them too.<P>A friend of mine is rigging a scout set up for his .41cal Marlin carbine. He thinks the A.O. ghost ring will sit up high enough to see over the mount if the scope is removed in a pinch. Should be interesting.<BR><P>------------------<BR>Rick

I have an Ashley Scout mount on a Marlin 1894P along with the ghost ring sights. I would not do the scout mount if I was doing it all over again, as it makes the handy little carbine "clunky" and awkward. I really like the ghost ring sights though.
