Could be a reason the 221 Fireball often has loads surpassing the 222, at least in the lighter bullets.
Speed isn't the do-all, but it's nice to know if accuracy looks promising at "book" max loads, you can likely go beyond those safely.

Single shots and break opens, plus the petite Anschutz actions chambered in such leaves the 222 and 222 Mag. in SAAMI's "lite" status.

Is that 722 for sale by any chance?
I have a DANDY little 722 in 222 Remington that has a Lyman 10 power scope on it.
My best group (5 shots at 100 yards) to date with it measures .626".
I am using 40 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips in it also.
I am using H 322 powder and Federal 205 M (match) primers.
My Rifle is rather consistently shooting in the 7's set up the way it is.
I have only had this Rifle for a year now and probably should do some more load development with it.
This is a cool set-up for Jack Rabbit Hunting though!
What power is your Leupold scope on that 722?
Let me know if its for sale.

Nope, I'm hangin onto this one grin

The scope is a Leupold straight 12X. The only drawback I see to seating out as far as I am, they don't fit the magazine. Oh, well just have to make the first shot count!!!!

I tried 21.5 grains of H322 and 50 Gr. Hornady's this week.

Several sub MOA groups at 100 yards, one LUCKY group
5 shots in one ragged hole! With witness (my 14 year old).

Bonz: I have a lot of "repeating" one shooters myself!
My good friend Jack has just brought on line a Ruger 77 V/T in caliber 25/06 and it is a "one shooter" repeater!
Dittoes for the Ruger 77 V/T in 204 Ruger he is load testing for right now.
Dang factories and there LONG throated reamers!
He relays to me that this one will be a "one shooter" repeater as well!
Yes make the first shot a counter!
I love those Leupold straight 12 powers!
I still have a couple of them.
I mistakenly let a 722 in caliber 222 Remington Magnum get past me a few years ago.
I wish it were available today!
Good for you and enjoy your 222!

I just got a 20 inch barreled 788 for a large sum of 307 dollars. I am used to 26 inch barreled .222's. I tried chronographing a 50 grain prvi partisan load through it and it only went 2780. I did throw 3 of them into a half inch group though. What kind of velocity can I expect with a 50 grainer and a 20 inch tube? Should I use the same powders that I used for the 26 inch tube such as Re7 748?

I was using 21.4 with 50gr Hornady SX's and they created 4 shot groups <1" at 120 yards. Then I ran out of Hornady's. frown

Now I just revamped my Sierra load, and have found that 22.2gr of 322 shoot even tighter than the 21.0gr.

Yes, I was thinking of bumping the H322 charge up a bit also,
at least until the aforementioned one hole group.

If it turns out to be a fluke I will try the 22 rain load!

In both the .222 and .223 the 40 gr. Sierra HP and Speer 52 grain HP shoot great. They are typically 30% cheaper than Vmax' and Nosler BT...shoot as well/better and kill better.

Also try the Sierra 50gr. Blitz and Hornady SX at medium velocities (under 3300 fps).

For powder, try Ramshot XTerminator per a load from the FREE and excellent Ramshot Load Manual listing lots of info, bullets, and calibers
