Anybody ever chronogragh the two in say a 4 to 5 inch barrel?
Does a mag have a slower burning powder for a rifle?
Enquiring minds want to know.........

I haven't done it myself - but if I remember correctly from charts and articles, from most handguns the mag equals the LR from a rifle? Now you have me curious, and I may have to verify that myself...

I don't have chronograph data for .22 LR pistol, but here are some chronographed velocities from my Ruger Single Six .22 Mag cylinder with 5.5" barrel:
CCI, 40 gr HP, 1,346 fps
CCI, 40 gr Solid, 1,375 fps
Federal, 30 gr Speer HP, 1,548
For comparison, my chronographed rifle velocities for .22 LR are about 1,000 fps (e.g., std vel target)to 1,250 fps (e.g., Remington bulk 37 gr HP).
In my experience from hunting with both, the .22 mag out of the pistol hits harder and has a flatter trajectory (especially the 30 gr bullet above) than the .22 LR out of the same revolver. The bullets (especially current ones) are also better than in .22 LR.

Thanks Chinook. Someone said once(I know I know) that the Mag had a slower burning powder and a good bit didn't get burned.
In a 44 Mag with a 4" barrel, 40% of 2400 doesn't get burned.

I don't believe that 22 MRFs are loaded with slow burning powder, rather I think that it is very fast burning powder.
FWIW, besides the higher velocity, I think that the most significant advantage of the 22 MRF over the 22 LR is the quality/construction of the bullets. The 22 MRF is a good choice for a survival, live off the land, cartridge 'cause it is just enough for deer at close range and you can easily carry 100 or 150 rounds in your pack.

I was shooting my 6.5" barreled single six at the range and a guy let me chrony the loads. As I recall, the 22 mag got the velocity back up to 22lr Rifle speeds and the magnum stuff was more uniform in velocity.
I couldn't tell if the uniform velocity or slightly larger bullets in the magnum contribute to the better accuracy.

Good shooting! It is a lot of years ago, but in 2000 I did chronograph the two. my results were smilar with the 22 mag but 40gr cci solids 1350, Blaser hp 1450 and 40 gr Federal 22 lr 950 but that was out of the 22 mag cylinder which ruptured the cases. Randy
