I have a rifle I need to ship and went to the post office that I usually use this morning to ship, they tell me I have to be a dealer! I have shipped rifles here before with no problem. What section ,chapter and book do I need to tell them to look at? I would really like to make them ship this rifle, but I need to go back armed to the teeth with info to do so. Is there a post master on here?
JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

Probably do a search at usps.com. I'm sure there is something there that you can print. These folks are poorly informed to hold the position they do. Good luck and don't the post"MAN" keep you down.

Starts on page 63. I've had the issue and made a call to the regional office. http://www.usps.com/cpim/ftp/pubs/pub52.pdf

"A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another State. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. The Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. [18 U.S.C. 1715, 922(a)(3), 922(a)(5) and 922 (a)(2)(A)]" From ATF's site http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/unlicensed-persons.html#shipping-firearms-usps

I used regular postal service last spring to ship a rifle back for warranty repair. Never told them it was a firearm. The rifle was returned by the manufacturer via UPS to my door step and this was in the gun friendly state of NJ.

I had one call a local dealer to get the answer, that it had to go through a dealer, DUH. Of course he said that, he got $30 a shot.
I asked her why the hell she was calling a local dealer about Postal Regulations? I told her I was in the Coast Guard and it would be akin to me calling Kmart about Boating Regulations.
After a few phone calls I got them to EAT CROW, I loved it.

Oh, don't count on WRITTEN regulations to mean anything, because much depends on a person's ability to read and comprehend.
I showed a Walmart clerk in Texas the regulations sitting on his counter that state a military member stationed anywhere is entitled to resident rates for a license, he said that wasn't the case because it was in the Texas regulations and they only deal with Texas residents, WHAT?

There's also a little clause in the ATF regs that say the Postmasters shall not interpret ATF rules...just obey them.
I saw a movie where only the military and the police had guns. It was called Schindler's List.
