I have added a 300 Win Mag rifle to my collection and would appreciate suggestions on the preferred powders for 180 and 200 grain bullets.

RL 25 if you have a 26" bbl. Otherwise 4831 or RL 22.

IMR-4831, IMR-7828, RL-19 or 22. All have produced good vel and accuracy in a number of 300 WM I have loaded for.Rick.

My go-to powder for the .300 win mag is RL22. If that doesn't work out, then I try other stuff. If RL22 doesn't work I'd probably go to H4350 so I was trying something quite a bit quicker. RL22 is so good that if it isn't showing a lot of promise, then a big change rather than a small change is needed IMHO. Those two powders have probably accounted for 80+ of my "best" loads in the various .300 win mags I've owned.

Other good powders to try are H4831, RL19, and IMR 7828.

I can not imagine a better combination than 75-grs of RL-22 and a Nosler 180-gr Partition.

I've done upteem amounts of research on powder for a .300 win. mag and 180 grain bullets. REL 22 is the one that comes up as the choice, most often, for speed and accuracy and it's what I use in mine. With REL 22 being somewhat temperature sensitive the next powders I'm going to try are IMR 7828 or H4831 in that order to avoid the temp sensitivity issues.

give or take a half grain I have used 75.0 RL-22 and 180s in 5-6 different 300 WMs. I've only had 1 300 WM that would not shoot with that combo.

My .300 WM has been all over North America, mainly with 200 gr Nosler Pts. R-22 and IMR4831 can give me nearly 3000 fps with MOA accuracy. My gun, a trued Win 70 with a custom barrel, doesn't like H-4831 and hates H-1000, but YMMV. For me, R-22 gets the nod over IMR4831, but just barely.

The way I do it is 150gr and down H-4350.165gr and up RL 22.Can't remember the last time I've used anything heavier than 165gr in my 300 Win.

200 gr. FB TSX's and max loads of H1000 were awesome in my win mag.

Take a look at the Hodgdon recommendations for loading Retumbo under a 200 gr Partition. If your gun can realize their claimed velocity (2,962fps) with this bullet, you will have a crusher round that will do it all.
Hodgdon data is available on line.

I noticed in the Hodgdon data for the 300WM that they indicated the use of a Large Rifle primer rather than a Large Rifle Magnum primer. I would have thought it would have been otherwise with those large loads of slow-burning powder. I generally use WLRM in the Short Magnums and in all the belted magnums I have. What primers do you folks use?

I used WLR's with no problems, but never shot in really cold weather.

Running H4831 behind a 178gr AMax. I've had really good results with it. I am also using a LRM primer.
