I was in the right spot, right place today and scored on a Remington 700 with original barrel in 7X57. It was topped with a Leupold Vari X-lll 3.5-10 scope. Can any one tell me what year they built this rifle? Serial # is C6552XXX. Rifle is in pretty good shape with just your normal wear and tear that you would find on a hunting rifle. Anyone shoot one of these that can point me in the general direction for a good load?

Heckola, I didn't even know that they ever even made a BDL 7x57..

They made a Mtn rifle I know but not sure when they made the BDL.

This has the Bdl bottom metal but it has a 22" barrel that is a real thin contour. Are the Mtn rifles actually marked so or are they just a lighter model of the 700?

I have the 1986 Remmy Catalog when they first were announced. Its basically a scaled down BDL. Without looking I believe they are unmarked.

There is one a gunbroker right now that looks just like the one I picked up. I'm kinda surprised at what it's going for. I paid considerably less for this whole setup than even what they started that auction at. The only thing missing on mine is the black wrist cap. Anyone know if that piece is still available.
Here's the one on GB.

Those were glued on and can get knocked off. Ditto for the forend cap. I have never seen one for sale. But you may have to scrounge some gunshows and gunsmiths who are pack rats.

Those earlier Mountain Rifles came out in .270Win, .280 and 30-06. The most recent Mt. Rifles with detachable magazines were a disaster in my view.

No. To my knowledge, Remmy has never marked any versions of the M700....other than M700 stamped on the receiver....

Numrich has them now and then. Keep checking and they will eventually have a few.

I had one that really liked 160 partitions and 140 ballistic tips with IMR4350. Nosler max loads. Pretty slick little guns.

120 & 140 TSXs will do anything in the lower 48. Agree on 4350.
Remember a 7x57 in a modern rifle will outdo the much hyped 7mm08.

Why did you have to go and post that?????!!!!!!! I want this all to myself!!!!!!!!!

If you got yours for < $250, including a frickin' VXIII, then you are one lucky [person whose parents were never married]! I actually own one already, & this is (hopefully) going to be my very 1st "duplicate" rifle. I like it that much.

My buddy bought a 700 7x57 MR, as well, and both of ours seem to like heavy bullets: S&B 173's and Federal Blue Box 175's. We haven't gotten either one of them to shoot 140's worth a darn. I do have another friend working up some loads for me with Hornady 154's and RL15, and those are showing some promise. I'm not saying RL15 would be the best choice, but we have tons of it on hand, & the accuracy is encouraging.

Actually I got this for $150.00 and that included a soft case and a sling. When he called me and asked me if I wanted it he said it was a 7MM. I thought it was a mag. He told me he wanted $100.00. When he brought it over he said he decided to leave the old scope on it and he had to have $150.00 for it. I about messed my pants when I saw what it really was. I'm going to get out this weekend and see how it shoots.

I bought mine off the local paper classifieds back when guns could be sold on there. It was new, unfired in original box for $275. I felt bad about calling at 6 am, but as I was picking it up they said their phone was ringing off the wall. Gotta love $150 for yours.

I'm sorry FC. I guess I could always make it up to you and sell you mine. But maybe it wasn't a new bidder but someone that you had already outbid. I did notice that there was 14 bids on that rifle already.

The trick to getting 120/140 to shoot with rifles throated for 175s (if you have a long enough magazine) is to seat them out way beyond factory max OAL. My 140 TSXs are seated 50 thou off the lands and look quite different but shoot very well.

Thanks for the info. I just posted a WTB on the classified for some 7X57 dies and I'm really excited about getting this out to the range.

So, you basically bought an old Leupold and it came with a free M700 Mountain Rifle in 7x57.

Well Done! grin
