Does anyone have a picture they could post of a Winchester Model 70 (classic) standard action with Talley Lightweight Extension rings on it? I've seen the non-extension models and they won't work for my scope.
The rear ring could sit over the screws or behind them, but the front ring has to sit behind the screws for sure.
I'm thinkng someone makes a rear-only extension ring set and if Talleys are the same, that won't work.
I tried Googling them but all I came up with is pictures of the non-extension rings. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If I can't find a picture of them I guess Leupold makes another sale.

Well...

Read your description of what you need in a "extension" mount for an M70.

THEN, ask your self if a set of "extension mounts" could really be designed to work any other way than how you described your requirements...

Think about it for a minute..

You have pretty much answered your own question as to what the Talley mounts look like.

The rear is most likely the same as a regular mount or has the ring ahead of the rear base screws..

And the front is most likely a reversable mount that can have the front ring either behind or ahead of the mount screws..

I really do not see how they could be designed any other way..

I talked to Talley the other day and they said the extension ring would add an additional 3/8" mounting length and would overhang the M70 action by 1/8-1/4". That may be needed for a Leupold scope...I went with the Zeiss 3-9X40 Conquest and standard Talley lightweights and should have everything by tomorrow. You probably will want to reverse the front base for any short-tube application. I'll post a pic of my setup as soon as it's done. Good luck.

They could make a pair which only extends the rear ring...like I think Leupold does. That won't work because I need the front ring for sure to be an extension to the rear of the screws.

2 1/2-8 Leupold. The objective bell begins over the front mount screws, so the front ring needs to extend rearward.

Those look like regular Talleys to me..

That front ring looks like it doesn't sit back far enough for the scope I've got. On mine, the entire front ring needs to be behind the rear mount screw.

Tomorrow I'll call Talley and ask them. Thanks for trying to help me.

MagMarc; I've got a Model 70 with a 2 1/2-8 on it and I set my scope back about 1/2" more than you do. I got mine out of the safe and compared it to your picture and that's the difference.

1/2" on that scope on a long action makes a big difference. I hope you get it worked out to suit you.

The ring positioning works out perfect for me with a 2 1/2-8 Leupold when I use the 2-piece Leupold reversible front and reversible rear bases...the scope ends up with about 3/16" adjustment fore or aft. I am trying to save as much weight as possible on this rifle and thought I'd try the Talley LWs. One way or another, it'll work out.
