Is there any difference in value or quality on Remington 700 BDLs? I had early model in 17 Remington it had pressed checkering. I thought I heard somewhere those are more collectible. Anybody know if one is better than the other?

I don't believe the older ones command a premium over the newer ones. Usually anything with pressed checkering will go for less.

I believe the only older ones that would have a premium (depending upon caliber) is the carbine version with 20" sighted barrels from the 1960's. Now in terms of quality, most collectors find the earlier rifles (1960's vintage) to be superior in quality of fit & finish.
I had a 1965 vintage BDL in .270 and it was very well built, even with the Fleur-de-Lis impressed checkering, which I personally thought was attractive. After 1969, the impressed checkering was changed to an ugly ribbon pattern until around the 1973-1974 period. J.M.H.O.

I have some but I couldn't warm up to the pressed checkering. It was cosmetic only as it didn't do anything to help your grip.

Ive seen the pressed checkered ones go a BIT higher if mint. I believe more so for the love of old guns than anything. Most of us old timers started with them and had more than one.

Stocks were NORMALLY slimmer, didnt have the fugly azzed butt pads of later years and were beauties in their own rights.

Some still prefer that era for actions for a build......unsure why.

As is always the case, who is looking at the time and how deep their pockets has a bearing too.

Should anyone know of a MINT short action "pressed checkered" 700 stock, straighter grain, reddish tint to wood......I know a guy looking.
Gun or stock only.

Not meaning to hijack things but serious inquiry.

Send pics or location of gun if you know of one.
