Merry Christmas guys!

I'll be building a rifle in a few months and will want open sights. I'll have two options , 14"-16" between the front and rear or 24"-26". Which is better if I wanted to hit a 200 yd target? The rear will be a ghost ring and the front, either a tritium or white post. These are back up to a low powered fixed scope.

The caliber will be 7-08 or 7x57, if that makes ay difference.

I'm thinking the longer the better, Is there an optimum distance?

Thanks

Cajun

NWC, the longer the sight radius, the better.
another important consideration is the rear apeture.
Is it going to be big enough to let the proper amount of light in?
Too big will not give you as fast a target aquesition, but is far better than too small, which will distort the sight picture.

It will be a ghost ring, which is very large.

It's a trade-off. Average shooters with short sight radii don't as easily notice slight errors in aiming, so they're not as likely to "hold tight" and increase the muzzle waver that comes from the excessive concentration tension that long sight radii inspire in them. Average and novice shooters generally do better with short sight radii. Expert shooters, more disciplined and better coordinated, generally do better with long sight radii. But few shooters want to admit that they aren't clones of Daniel Boone or Billy Dixon in terms of their field shooting.

"Good enough" isn't.

Always take your responsibilities seriously but never yourself.
