I've perused available literature and a half dozen reloading manuals and noted a lack of consistency in primer specification. Some list large rifle primers, some list magnum primers, and at least one manual specifies both for different powders. As a newcomer to reloading I admit confusion. I would be grateful for enlightenment!

Go with the primer and powder combo of your choice from loading manuals. Safer that way. Some powders do require Mag primers.

I have had very good luck with Fed 210 and 210 Match primers in my 9.3X62.
My powder of choice is RL15 with everything from 250 to 286 grain bullets.
Seems like a very easy caliber to load, and shoots like a house a fire.

My CZ 9.3X62 does best with Winchester Large Rifle primers. The medium burning rate powders that do best in the 9.3 don't need magnum primers.

I tried Win magnum primers with Varget/RL 15 and my groups literally doubled. Stick with the standard primers.

Stay with the std. large rifle primer, I have always used Fed 210's in my 9.3x62 and at one point I tried the Fed 215's with, the same load I was using with the 210 and it was too hot with the hotter 215 mag primer..It does make a difference, although the chronograph read about the same in velocity, so all the mag primer did as far as I could tell was increase the pressure to the point of real flat primers and a extractor mark, which indicates a bit too much pressure and that I needed to cut back a grain or two of powder with the magnum primer, but the groups had opened up about 1/2 to 3/4's of an inch..Needless to say I went back to my old standby 210 primer.

Generally, mag primers with ball powders.

WLR's worked pretty well for me, when I was fooling around with a 9.3x62, even with ball powder(Ramshot Big Game). Pretty easy to please cartridge.

I shoot H414 in mine. That's a ball powder and ball powders tend to like magnum primers so I use Fed 215.

Hmmmm, based on the posts by Hatari and Sawbuck, I went to my extensive testing and reloading records on the 9.3x62...After a good deal of review and comparison I noted that a 215 primer demanded one grain less powder in every instance, and velocity was the about the same with both RL-15 and H414 using mag primers or standard primer, but had higher pressure with the mag primer., I also noted much to my surpise that there was no differnce in accuracy until a load got too hot and in most cases my best accuracy was at or near max but not beyond max.

I also noted that this review slightly contridicted my first post, thanks for the heads up.

The basic facts seem to be the 215's are hotter, and we knew that to start with so a max load with a 215 is one grain less than a 210 or standard primer as a rule...Accuracy according to my records has more to do with the individual rifle than the primer as some 9.3s are not effected and other are..Again this about what I would have suspected in that rifles are an inity unto their own as someone once said...

I use CCI 200 primers. Other than that my experience is what 340 said. Found there was no point in trying a powder other than RL15. No way I could get smaller groups. Easiest caliber I ever loaded for.

I agree that the load development for the 9.3 X 62 was the easiest. It seems to shoot every combo well. Probably my smallest groups were with RWS bullets, which surprised me because of their funky shape. I stick with H414 because of the good results, and it meters so easily from the powder measure.

Considering the case capacity and speed of powders used, magnum primers probably aren't needed, but there have been loading gurus (and manuals) that insist ball powders be ignited with magnum powders.

yessir. My very first attempt was around an inch with two holes touching. I did crimp some and leave some uncrimped and that made no diff. I see no further reason to fool with anything.

I just looked at my notes and found I have always used CCI 200's when loading the 9.3x62, mostly because I have always had good luck with them (and so have a bunch on hand). Have loaed for 4 rifles and always gotten sub-inch groups, even with ball powders like Big Game.

Same experience as others: The 9.3x62 is one of the easiest rounds I've ever loaded for.

No issues with the 9.3X62, in my CZ550 easy to load for, sub MOA on most loads. I have never had to use a magnum primer, CCI 200 or Winchester standard large rifle. One of the easiest rifles I own to load for. 232g to 286g never needed a magnum primer. Then again I have never used a ball powder.

i use CCI200 with Vihtavuory N150 and 250gr Barnes TSX
in a Mauser 98 re-barelled with 24" Delcour barrel

It is essentially a .30'06 case necked up. I always used standard large rifle primers, usually Fed 210 or Winchester.
