Hi I recently bought a Interarms Mark X 30-06 full length stock off the forum here and While it came with steel rings and bases I would like to get the scope as low as possible(either a M8 4x or a M8 6 x ) I would also like to have lightweight rings and bases . what would be the lowest available ? and the Lightest available? I am thinking either Talleys (dont know if they come in low for the Mauser) or Weaver bases with some type of lightweight Weaver type ring. appreciate yalls input. Thanks,Craig

Talley does make them for the Mark X, just ask for low Large Ring Mauser. Weaver's are also good and light as well.

Tally lows on a LR 98. Had to grind/round off one corner, else the bolt would close. No big deal, and the Weaver's work fine also.

My preference are the Leupold or similiar Weaver cross slot bases as they are the lowest, most rounded and comfortable to carry with the scope is removed and very tough - with Weaver low rings.

I had the same rifle for a time. It is possible to get a scope too low and have interference between the bolt handle and the scope's ocular bell. Just watch for it and don't slam the bolt open too hard the first time lest you scratch your scope. I can't remember which setup I ended up with on my MkX but it was not the lowest available.

That's a nice rifle. Good luck with it.

Stick with Mediums. The bolt handle will mess with the rings or ocular. Five Mausers of trying and I allways end up with Mediums.

Low mounts will work with a Mark X bolt handle and 4x or 6x Leupolds.

Hi, I called Weaver to get the part number so I could find a place to order them and Man there told me to go with the Grandslams for 30-06 recoil but I think just the Original Weaver type rings will be more than sufficient. He also said that since the Grandslams were narrower than the Original style weavers that the weight difference wouldn,t be much if any at all. I dont know but this doesn,t make sense to me especially if one used the steel bases. I always thought the old style weaver rings pretty tough ,just never liked the fact it was a pain to line up the crosshair and keep it from moving when the rings were tightened down !! More comments appreciated. and where is the cheapest place I can order some of these bases and rings? 55(48055)rear base)
20A(48020)front base)
(49030 )low rings)
or
(49040)low Matte rings)

Thanks,Craig

bcraig,

I have used the standard Weaver aluminum bases and rings with steel cap for many years on many rifles, including 30-06. They are tough as nails and will work perfectly on your Mark X.

Most any Mauser 98 set of rings and bases will work.. Redfield, Burris, Leupold and a host of others..I personally like Talleys Quick Detachables, and have used them on many Mk10s and Whitworths..
