Got a bunch of 22's but my favorite is a Bearcat that I bought in 1967 with my first paycheck as an 18yr old boilermaker. Have shot it a bluezillion times, killed abunch of stuff with it, and is the only handgun that I can consistantly hit pitched targets with. Hope my son and grandson will love it as much.

I think Ruger makes some of the best handguns. They work, and they have excellent support.

Different 22s for different things.

Maybe this thread should be your favorite 22 for your favorite kind of shooting.

For me it is shooting rats at a dump. I just love it. I will not finish a bucket of chicken just to have bait to shoot more.

A friend brought his High Standard Space Gun in 22 short with weights and a comp.. Only comped gun I ever want. A little heavy but no bounce, smooth as you run a line of bullet after one........

I'm foaming at the mouth, gotta go shoot some rats.......

Man, those Smith revolvers are beautiful. Wish I'd kept my 25-5. Still got my 29-2 though. smile

But I digress again...

Kinda of like eating potato chips, you just can't have one. I've got a real old Ruger (non adjustable sights) with a 10" barrel I really like, and old M-17 S&W with a 6" barrel that I bought back in the 70 that works vary well, and a 7" barrel M-41 S&W that is scary accurate I've had since the 1960's. They all have long barrels and they all use only Winchester Super-X ammo only. Gosh if they could talk, I would be under the jail.

Pretty tough to beat a stainless Ruger Single Six. I carried one of these for over 20 years on the trapline. Never had a bit of trouble with it, and the interchangeable 22 mag cyllinder is handy to have. 'Can't even fathom a guess how many coons and fox I dispatched with that little gun. 'Dropped it in the mud more than once. A good cleaning and it was good to go. 'Even dispatched a deer that a young girl hit with her car when I was humping out my pack one night. Just a good, tough little gun.

I own or have owned almost every quality .22 handgun mentioned. I had a Victor that was far more accurate than I can shoot. The Rugers will last forever. The Medalist is beautiful. I have a Diamondback 6" blue, that matches my Python and my .38 Diamondback. I have not owned a Colt Woodsman. However, I'm with the Smith & Wesson group. My favorite is a 6" 17-3. My trail gun is a 63. The Smith revolvers are very special guns for me.

The first handgun I ever shot was my Dad's H&R 999 Sportsman. Smooth as greased silk, with excellent single action let-off and good double action as well. It was built in the early 1950s or late 1940s, and my Dad had traded a K-22 for it! He said the H&R just fit his hand better, and he liked the 9 shot cylinder. Compared to H&Rs of later vintage, it was very well made. Dad got a model 926 in the late 70s or early 80s, and it felt like a tin can compared to that old sportsman.

I've tried most of them in my lifetime...however the ones that I still have/use are the S&W 17, S&W 48, and an old Colt Woodsman.

The Smith's both have 6" barrels, and the Colt has a 4" tube.
