Successful as being stronger...

Quote
Someone at Winchester came up with the idea of modernizing the ancient Winchester Model 94 on the inside, while keeping the basic configuration on the outside. By beefing up the Model 94, the grand old design would be able to accommodate pressures in the range of 37,000 to 52,000 CUP (Copper Units of Pressure). That puts it in the same range as .308 and .30-'06 bolt actions. A Model 94 chambered in .308? Now that should be a winner!

Marlin also jumped on the bandwagon, but not for long. The .375 Winchester would be produced from 1980 to 1983 with a total of 16,315 Model .375s being offered with 20- inch barrels. Marlin announced the .307, but it's generally Left believed they never let any out of the plant, while the .356 Winchester was found in the Marlin 336ER (Extra Range). The latter is relatively rare with only 2,441 manufactured for. the three years of 1983 through 1986.

The Marlin action is just not as strong as some of the Winchesters..

Just an opinion.

As I understand it, the Big Horn Armory gun is available.

How do you define "successful"? None of the cartridges the Big Bore showcased, the 307, 356 and 375 Winchester are still chambered and the 94 is no longer made (no, I don't count Japanese reproductions).

The 1895 and 444 Marlins are still going strong.

I think by "successful" he meant "better", or perhaps "way more better".............. laugh

Then I could say no one thought you could make a 454 Casull in a leveraction, but they did at 65,000 PSI/SAAMI.But others failed miserably.

I would be real hesitant until it is tried and proven and just not another idea in a long line of them.

The data for a 500 Smith in a 22" barrel does not not meet the ballistics of a 45-70/.450 Marlin..Surprised me also.

22' Barrel data for the 500 Smith!

But this isnt a cowboy action, this is a modern made pump action rifle built to take the preassures of the 500S&W. It was designed by a fantastic gunsmith in Scot Towner and it due to unfortunate circumstances it wasnt able to continue when it was released last year.

Now we are working with Predator Tactical and you can expenct a much cheaper gun particularly when we get the off the shelf AR15 style furniture and you end up with a gun that looks something like this.

Did Towner Manufacturing close down, or are they still around? Their website does not seem to work, hence my question.
