We are remodeling an old upstairs bedroom, that has been used as a wild room since our kids left home. On a long shelf in the back of the closet, my wife discovered a fiberglass longbow that I was given about 40 yrs ago and had long forgotten about. I never hunted it because of its length and we just climbed a tree back in the day. I used a short 45# Pearson Hawk recurve for trees.

It is marked "Ben Pearson Strato-Jet Hunting Bow" (50#). It is a fiberglass longbow and seems to measure 66". Excellent condition, but the string is gone. They were made in the late 50's to early 60's. If I am reading correctly, it probably needs a 63" string that is not Fast Flight. I need advice on string type, length, and a reasonable place to buy one. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have a neat "new" toy there.

I suggest you tell the measurement and draw weight to the folks at 3 Rivers Archery and ask them for a B50 flemish string. Ask them if you can exchange it if it turns out to be too short.

On a side note, my best buddy who does a lot of wheelin'-and-dealin' just came into possession of the same model bow as my very first bow, only it's in pristine condition (my old one is long gone). In fact, he gave it to me just 'cause he knew I'd be geeked. It's an old Ben Pearson Mirage compound with aluminum riser, fiberglass limbs, round eccentrics in steel brackets, and steel cables. Just like my old one, this one shoots smooth as silk and literally makes no sound. What a great blast from the past! I think I might hunt with it some this fall for the nostalgia.

BR

I just ordered a B50 Flemish 63" string from 3 Rivers, along with some other stuff that I don't need. Thanks for the heads up. Life is good.
