Thought you guys might like to see a big eastern coyote. He took a 243 65 grain V-max in front of a case full of RL 15 at a little over two hundred yards. Typical of this combination was bang/flop and no exit.
He weighed 51.5 and 52 lbs. on my digital bathroom scale. You'll have to forgive me for not being in my Sunday's best.

Very Nice! Get one that big you should get a full mount done. I just got back a 47lb. I took in Dec. 03. The wait was awful but well worth it. First time I had one full mounted, and only because it was a good ten lbs. bigger than the average ones I shoot.

A life size mount would be something but I'm not sure my dog could handle having it in the house.
This was a relatively young coyote in my estimation as his teeth were perfect and not worn down at all.
In the last week my son got 1 and this is two for me just by keeping our eyes open on what is going on behind the farm.
they seem to be moving around alot again lately. I don't know if it has to do with the breeding season being pretty much over or what but they were non existant for the most part during January and the first part of Febuary.

That is the biggest coyote I've ever seen or heard of! The 'yotes down South are half that size and scrubby lookin'.

My dog had to smell alot when I first got it home, but she seems to be OK with it. She's been around alot of dead ones over the past couple years so she has grown abit accostomed to them. I think it would be a shame not to get yours full mounted. Once they get over 50 lbs. that is pretty rare even for the big ones we have up north.
When I got my 47lb. coyote, I had no doubt about getting it mounted, It was so much bigger then any other. Although when I first saw her I did not realize how big she was (yes it was female! that was another surprise.) I hope you decide on the full mount.

It's too late now but in the future I may do that. Granting I can get another one this size at sometime. Here's a medium sized one my son shot the other day.
He got caught up in the moment and crawled up the stock too much and the corner of the butler creek flip up gave him a bloody forehead. From a 243 no less.
Of course I give him points for running out of the house with just a pajama pants, bare feet in rubber boots, and a coat to run a couple hundred yards across a field in close to zero weather and wind to nail this one.
I brought the mittens when I came with the camera.

You should be proud, those are rare. What part of Ny are you from? I Live in southcentral PA and have been chasing a yote for a year but have yet to get get it. Are you shooting regular .243's or .243 wsm in what gun?

Nice dog. Must be the northern climate that makes them get that big, sort of like the whitetales in Saskatchewan. I trap and shoot coyotes all winter in B.C. and they average 40 lbs. The smashers get up on the fifties. Just curious, I've got alot of coyotes with mange [not sure of spelling] some have almost no gaurd hair left. This year is really bad, almost half how are your coyotes doing.

These two were taken with my sons Ruger in standard 243. I also use a 223 and 25-284. As far as location I'm in Chenango county. If you connect the dots of Syracuse, Utica, and Binghamton I'd be in the middle of the triangle.
I've seen more this size around and have taken one that wasn't much smaller but was a female.

All the coyotes I've seen this year have had great fur on them. A couple years ago alot of the fox had mange but they seem to be doing well too.

some very nice yotes for sure. I have yet to fire a shot this year on one. Glad to someone killing them.

Shot this one early this morning. While not as big as the first I'm guessing he is around 40 lbs. The 65 gr. V max exited this guy leaving quite a spectactular blood trail for the 25 yards he ran. The fur isn't too nice on this guy anymore.

We do have a nice spread here. We have a 260 cow dairy milked three times a day plus raise all the necesary crops. Like alot of things though the process of making it go keeps you from smelling the roses so to speak. Non the less I do enjoy it.

I have taken a few calling this year but these were just passing through. Including my son's I've taken 5 this way in the past two weeks. Their activity level seems to have gone up a notch and I'm not giving them any second chances. As you can see we have quite a open hillside in the back. It is about a thousand yards to where the trees start at the top. When a coyote is spotted basically it is like a fire alarm going off and one of us out there pretty quick. Basically it is a race between my son and I.
