Unsung Sailors- the Naval Armed Guard in WWII

I'm reading this book right now, part way through, and enjoying it. The NAG were 10 or 20 enlisted and a few officers placed on Liberty Ships, along with one or two 3 or 4 inch guns, and some machine guns or 20mm cannon. They were there to defend the ships from aircraft and subs, and to work as radiomen and signalmen. Meanwhile, the ship was run by the (civilian) merchant seamen.

Mostly boys, with little training, less experience, and obsolete equipment, they fought their way across the Atlantic, the Pacific, the Indian and the Arctic Oceans, again and again.

Should be in your local library, great stories.

Cheers,

Sycamore
