I had some leftover 85gr Barnes X moly coated that I loaded in my .243. I sure do like them but the little buck I got this AM didn't. One shot through the heart and he was down. This is what it looked like after the X bullet did its job. Got him a couple of miles or so from Lake Owen west of Laramie.

This makes me excited to see. Just bought a box of 85gr TSX's at work tonight to try out this weekend.

85's in the 243, clocking right at 3000 fps...a recipe I've used successfully on deer and antelope the last few years. The 270's been gathering dust...

Yep, those little bullets work, watching my 11 year old son drop his buck last year with a 80g TTSX/243 open my eyes a bit on smaller calibers working.

The 243 with 80gr TTSX is my primary rifle right now while i wait on a stock from mcmillan for my bigger rifle. Thinking i might try to head shoot a doe on sunday afternoon since my 4 year old wants to come with me.

Looks like it did the job well! Got any pics of the buck? He was a little spike so I didn't take any pictures of him.

Tender meat for sure...
Broadside heart shot? or did the bullet travel some?
Do you have anymore tags? I'd be interesting to see what happens when you drive it through the shoulders.

Only had one tag. He was quartering towards me. Took out the onside leg but was able to salvage most of the shoulder. Bullet went in low & angled up a bit.

The .260 is better. I have both (Rem 700SA and 725SA, respectively). I've taken caribou, elk, and a wolf with the .260, 140 gr. Corelokts so far, and I love that thing. Carried it for moose the last 2 years, but they were uncooperative, until the day I carried the '06.
Over the years, I've taken caribou, black bear, Dall sheep and moose with the .243, using 100 gr. non-premium factory loads. No flies there - except on carcasses. Haven't run a round through it in 5 or 6 years, however. Might have to break down and hand load some of those premium 80-85 - tried that weight in plain-jane on caribou some 30 years ago and was less than satisfied, but bullet technology has taken a few steps since.
The .243 and .260 are both calibers that "kill better than they should" as someone else once put it.
