I need to load for a friends new 338 rifle. I have 25o grain Sierra MK and SBT bullets. Any suggestions as to powders and charges would be appreciated

I have only limited experience, but 300 SMK's and Retumbo seem to work real well.

I use the 300gr SMK or Berger with 92.5 H-1000

I am a bit odd in that I hate Retumbo....

My Laupa has an ABS 30' barrel and 98 grains of H-1000 gave me 3189 FPS. 95 grains of R-25 gave me 3197 FPS. Both loads wer with the 250 grain SMK in Laupa brass with Federal 215M primers

I also use 92 grains of H-1000 behaind the 300 grain SMK for 2800 FPS and this is the best bullet wieght for long range in this caliber IMHO&E

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

I have an IM 338 Lapua and doing well with 109.5 grains of US869
Speeds running around 3100 fps with the 300 grain SMK. 29 inch barrel. I'd like to try the H1000 also because some say it is the best for the 338 Lapua. Running 9.4/1 twist.

Watch out for some of the new lots of H1000 I was having extremely eratic results in my 338 edge with some new H1000, backed of 4 grains and it still gave me issues, also velocity was all over the place with pressure signs. Switched to RL 25 and couldn't be happier. Gained a little velocity,ES dropped to 6 fps for 5 shots, very accurate.Everything was good with H1000 until I bought more new stock.

Really didn't hear about this issue before. I can't find any loads for 338 Lapua using RL25. I believe I have a few pounds of it stored in the garage. What would you run as starting load?
I'll try any powder, if I have the recipe. Did you get out hunting yet?

Mine liked mag pro with the 250's. It's a ball powder but it was consistent and accurate. I wasn't getting the velocities others are listing but I only had a 26" barrel. I think mine clocked right under 3000 with 250's.
