New poster here and thanks in advance.

I own 2 of these rifles. One in 308 (removable magazine)and t'other in 250 3000 takedown. As I'm in the sandbox, they're both safely (pun intended), locked away, so I can't look at them for the present.

I had scanned a few posts and noticed several refeneces to 99's, 99As, Bs, Cs, Es, EGs , etc ...

What are the differences between the ... (models/marks/variations)?

In addition what would be a good reference book on the Savage 99? I've looked at a listing for 'The ninety-nine' 3rd edition on Amazon, but can't get much info about the book.

I have seen one poster (talking about his friends rifle) state, "I pulled out my Savage book ...".

So ,,, what are others using for reference material on this fine rifle? Recommendations and sources for it?

Many thanks.

The ninety-nine by Doug Murray is THE Savage book... you want it.. its a great reference.

which COB/FOB you on... I'm in northern Iraq and have a copy with me...

your 308 is a 99C and the 250 is one of three possible models, The 1899 Deluxe 250-3000, which later basically became the 99G, or a pre-war 99F.... it could also be a 99K I guess but assume that you would have mentioned if it had engraving on it?

Sojerguy, welcome to the forum! Stick around, and keep your head down over there.

As Drew said, Murray's is the book to get. But even that is only a guide, it has errors and the folks here are your best bet for correct information.

Guys,

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm no longer in a 'firezone' while here in Kuwait (but the traffic here ...), and in fact haven't been on active duty since '97.

That said, I have been here in the sandbox since Jan 06 supporting stryker units. Rawah, Mosul, BIAP, Tikrit and a couple places in Affie-land. This last 11 months here in Kuw as actually been the most stressing of all!

End of Jan makes it 5 years here and I'm done.

The cognomen is one I've used on-line since 1988 (yeah the dark ages of the internet), and have just kept.

Will be on board more when I get to fondle my stuff (firearms that is) in a few months.

Thanks guys. Book is on its way. 2-5 weeks from now.

Anyone want to do me a favor a make a list for me with basic info on the different marks of 99s.
something like :

99a is nomramml found with drop comb, rotary magazine and diamond inlad sights.
99b has same, extept platinum inlaid sights.
99c has ....
99d ...
99ef has ...
99 g is found with ...
...
99X is in safari calibers
99z is used with kyrpton lazers ...

(a wee bit of hyperbole there).

I ask as I'll likely get another 1 or 2 while I'm here thru persuing the gun sale sites and want to know what I'm looking at and looking for.

loveur99.

Yes in many ways Juwait has been my worst location over here. I actually "apprecaited" (can't really say enjoyed) Afghanistan the most.

Go to www.savagela.org and you can view pictures of each model. If you have questions on any rifles you're looking at before the book arrives, feel free to PM me. I'm not in the market for any new rifles, so almost no chance I'll be bidding against you.

The problem with just a short list is... there's a lot of variations and changes. Murray's has most of it, but there's quite a bit missing from there.
