Have any of you had any exposure to these double rifles that Cabela's is selling? $5K for a big bore double is pretty incredible, as long as they aren't junk. Obviously not an H&H, hey, if they're functional and durable, that's a pretty good buy. Too bad they didn't skip the "engraving" and leave the action plain. Perhaps they're cast?? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/c...ifle/sabatti_dx.jsp?categoryId=SEARCH_glJeff

Until one of the gunwriters stops by with some up to date info you might want to do a search on this site, the Double Rifle forum on Nitroexpress.com and over on Accurate Reloading. There has been some discussion about these, they are manufactured with a plain receiver but it looks like the importer/Cabelas is going for the more expensive model to maximize profit at this point.

I have visited the Sabatti factory and handled that model rifle. It's a pretty nice gun for the money and is well made.

Hopefully, one of the writers gets to actually shoot one. I'd definitely be interested in a plain receiver model. No matter how good; machine engraving, will always look like machine engraving. I'd rather have none. Of course the main question will be, do they go bang every time, hit where pointed, and stay tight, after prolonged firings.

Nope. I used to have a Beretta o/u 9.3, but am currently doublerifleless. Current 9.3x74's are a Ruger No.1, and a Simson drilling 12x12/9.3x74R. Do you still have your Chapuis? Jeff

Still have it and took a bison heifer with it in Nebraska; it was a hoot! 100 yds. broadside, trotting, double-tapped it through the lungs. I was going to sell it but it really is at home anyplace you'd hunt whitetails, elk, or moose, within a 100 yds or so. It's earning a home! Norma 286-gr Oryxs, fully mushroomed, under the hide on the off-side.

Way to go...that's awesome! Sounds like the Oryx's worked well.

I have a few hundred Oryx in the .308 dia 180gr that I have been meaning to load for the 06. I will have to give them a try. Seem to work well on that little honey. Congrats

Mark Load them up -- I expect you will like them! Quite a few guys on my moose hunting team use Norma Oryx bullets (6.5's, .30 cal's and 9.3). We all help with the skinning and butchering, so I have seen the results of quite a few shots. I would have to say that the Oryx seem to perform very similarly to the Woodleigh bonded bullets -- and that is high praise! John

It's a cheap rifle that has gotten very good reviews so far except for this one.
Jeff, once Cabellas has soldX number of rifles that they have contracted for, there will be 'plain jane'work rifles rifles released. I'm on the list for one but will passbecause I have 2 450 NE's and a 500/450. Do you want this 450 I ordered?

MIke,
Hope you're doing well! My slush fund is pretty tapped out. PM me some details anyway, as I could always do a little culling in the gun safe!

The ones I have handled appeared to be well made and the targets showed fine regulation with Hornady ammo. I was impressed enough to lay away a 9.3x74 and a 450-400 and will be picking them up in a week or so when I get home. Been saving for a 9.3 for some time and was able to buy both for about what I planned to spend on the 9.3. Brass, bullets and dies await. Reports will follow. Note that JJ at Champlin's gave a 500 NE he examined a thumbs up which is good enough for me.

I just bought one myself in 450NE and posted on the Campfire about it, also there is a very good report on them by JJ Perodeau from Champlin Firearms over on the AR Double Rifles forum.
