I have owned the 338 RUM since it came out in LH 700. The 338 RUM is not only flat shooting, but i haven't tried a load in this rifle that wouldn't group under a inch. My hunting load is the Nosler 225 gr Part with Rel 22 and it is one of the best Elk rounds you can use. You can't go wrong with the standard 338 RUM, I gave my 300 RUM and my 338 Win Mag to my son.
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

If your building a custom OAL doesn't make much difference, run a Wyatt box and your good to go.

To say what round has more accuracy potential is just opinions. I have put 5 shots into 3/4 inch at 300 yards with my 338 edge so to me that's about as good as I could possibly expect. I don't think if I changed to a 338 norma I would do better. It would just be a gamble.Accuracy is going to be more based upon the shooter, and the quality of the build and components.

at $40 for 20 rounds of brass for the Norma, i would go with the Edge or the RUM.

Well I went the route of the .338/.300 Ultra mag, known to many as the wildcat .338-EDGE. You can indeed handload for this caliber but don't be thinking "Light Rifle" as mine kicks like a Missouri Mule!!!
If my memory serves me correctly, it develops something like 56 pounds of felt recoil at the shoulder and that is nothing to take for granted when you want to shoot tiny little groups off way out youndar. I can shoot mine about 3 times before the hurt kicks in and my brain is sent a signal from my upper torrso saying HELL.......NO MORE!!!
If you install a muzzle brake on the rifle, it will feel like a .270 from the bench. I now have mine Mag Na Ported at the end of a 26 inch barrel, I also wear a PAST RECOIL PAD which cuts the recoil down about 45%, the porting will give you another 8 to 10% less felt recoil.
You really need this caliber in at least a 10 pound rifle, add a pound N 1/4 for mounts and rings, You have an 11+ pound rifle for long range work. My rifle has shot 3 shot groups at 200 yards into 1.3 inch groups......this was by someone with better eyes than I now have ok.
