I have a 338-06 AI on a VZ 24 with a 24" barrel. Looking for data on RL 17 and 210 NPT. I know I have seen some data on the 338-06 and RL17. I tried the search feature and got nothing. I tried under the Gun writers, Hunting rifles, Reloading - Big game forums, using 338-06, RL17 by itself and 338-06 and RL17 going back one year and the search engine comes up with nothing. Now I know that there have been posts with RL17 in the title, but the search engine comes up with nothing. Rather frustrating.

My 338/06 with 23" barrel has shot the 200 NBT fairly well with R17 but not as well as R15 and or H4350.

But, here's some data that I worked up Oct/09 in 60 degree weather.

200 NBT/63/R17=2847 fps

200 NBT/64/R17=2923 fps

Best of luck to ya

59.5gr RL17 with the 225 AB or Partition works well for me. 2640ish IIRC with a 22" tube out of a 338-06 (not AI). H4350 has proven to be the most accurate for me. Seems like I have shot it with other bullets, have to look through my notes.

I put together my first .338-06 this summer. The first powder I played with was RL17. I worked with Hornady 225g Spire Points and 200g Ballistic Silvertips. After a pound of experimenting, I never achieved the accuracy I was looking for. I quickly found great accuracy with H4350 and the 200g Silvertips (I'm out of the Hornady's).

I find velocity and accuracy kings are H 380, RL 15, 4064 and IMR's 4895 out of mine...

The below are results from this morning. Rifle is an FN commercial Mauser in a Banser or Brown stock, can't remember which, and a 23" Shilen No. 3 that was fit to the rifle and chambered by Jim Kobe. This is my initial load workup for the rifle. Super accurate with recoil comparable to a .300 Weatherby or thereabout. Warning: These loads are not pressure tested loads so verify through a credible source that pressure tests before using.

210 TSX Norma brass and Federal 210 primers
60 grains RL17 2710 fps and 1/2" for four shots at 100 14 ES
62 grains RL17 2790 fps and 1/2" for four shots at 100 ES of 5 fps

62 grains Ramshot Big Game 2770 fps 1.25" for four shots 7 ES

62 H4350 2620 fps 1" for four shots 5 ES
