Any first hand knowledge of the 6.5 Bench Rest Magnum?

I am interested in a Contender Carbine barrel that can give me 2500 fps with a 140 grain 6.5mm bullet. EABCO states on their site that the 6.5 BRM will do just that. The other candidates only list ballistics for handgun length barrels and for the 120-129 grain bullets.

Comments? Suggestions?
Thanks

Not first hand with the BRM, but I shoot the 97D rifle it was developed for, and it's a low pressure falling block rifle. If it comes close in the 97D rifle, the Contender shouldn't have any problem running at that speed, or a little higher.

The BRM case has essentially the same capacity as the 7-30 Waters, and it can reach 2450 with a 140 gr. bullet at about 44,000 PSI, according to Quickload. HTH, Dutch.

Here is a link to a shooters forum blog. The first entry has a link to a pdf file with a ballistics table for the 6.5 grendel with various bullet weights.

If EABCO sez it, it is so.

Fine folks to deal with - and I'd have no reservations on this as a Contender barrel or in one of Eben's 97D rifles...

In fact, if I did not already feel knee deep in 6 and 6.5 MM rifles I would have one of the 97d's - probably in 6 6BRM.

I bought a 97D for my son when he was born in 6.5 BRM. Fireformed with bulk 120gr Rem @ 2400 and worked up a huntin load with 100gr X's at 2700 (in a 20 inch barrel). Very accurate little rifle and the (old orginal) X bullets were death on whitetails and pigs. I bet 2500fps with 140's in a 24' barrel would be doable though a bit more recoil than I wanted for a 6 year old smile.

Thanks for all the replys. I am leaning more and more toward trying a 6.5 BRM. Like having a 6.5x55 in a little Contender Carbine.

Relodr I agree with you...I'd hafta be awful mad at a 6 year old to want him to crank off that round in a 5.5 pound rifle!
