I have never used a 284 at long range, but if I did I would start with H4831sc at about 52 grains with the 175 MK. I would also use Lapua brass, and Winchester regular large rifle primers.
I've tried the 162gr with no decent accuracy. I've been working with the H4831sc and 175MK but again not impressed with the accuracy. I used 180's last year with decent results but feel the gun can do better so I am exploring other load options.
Tried the 162 with for the reasons you point out but had limited success - that's why I stepped up a bit.
