i have been told that the sako takes the same mounts as a browning abolt. does anyone know this to be true? i am asking because i primarily use dnz game reaper 1 piece mounts and they list no mount for the sako, but they do make one for the abolt.

Yes. Same hole pattern as the A-Bolt.

Using two piece bases, they are the same. One piece wouldn't fit, the action length is different.

I used Talley Lightweight mounts, back then I just ordered a abolt mount but if you go onto swfa.com they now list it under Sako A7.

Talley Lightweight is a two piece mount. No problem there. If you tried to mount a Talley Picattinny rail for Browning on your Sako A7, it wouldn't work.

I have used Warne QD medium 30mm rings to mount a Zeiss Classic 2.5-10x50. 40mm objective scope will fit nicely into low rings, there is going to ample room for lens caps.

Here's mine w/ QRW lows, I find the LEU mounts a more flexible and therefore more useful system than the fixed Talley LWs. I also prefer the LEU system as it gives me better clearance for the quick release base on my Lightforce predator light.

Hi There,

I too have a Sako A7 SS in 30-06 and need a new base/rings as well. What height Warne rings did you use for your Sako A7? Would Maxima low be enough for a 4x16-40mm scope that has a outer dia of about 56mm and 61 mm with covers (those can be shaved)?

For the base use M918/918 right?

Thanks!

Did you use the base for the A-bolt?:
Leupold 49848 - Leupold Quick Release Weaver Style 2-Base Brn Abolt Silver

Also what height leopold rings are you using? Low or medium? Would low be enough for a 4x16-40mm scope that has a outer dia of about 56mm and 61 mm with covers (those can be shaved)?

Thanks!

FWIW, worth noting that Sako A7s usually come with Weaver style bases already installed...at least they do up here.

(Not sure from your post if you already have an A7, in which case you'd already know this. smile )

Yes, It did come with an aluminum base (2 peice) that came loose and warped a bit. Called Sako and the told me that the aluminum base is not good enough for a 30-06 and that is expected. Advised me to change to a steel.
