im new to hunting and i want to get a good mid cal. rifle...
ive been looking at the marlin XS7 .243.
anybody have one?
or have any other sugestions for me?

Azoutdoor - welcome. I also have a Marlin XS7 w/camo syn stock. For the bucks it's accurate and well made. With a Redfield, Burris or Weaver (amongst others) scope on top you're good to go. Have fun with it. Regards, Homesteader.

One of my hunting buddies has one and I'm very impressed. It shot ragged, one-hole groups with a couple of loads and felt very nice ergonomically speaking.
If you're not burning through batteries in your headlamp,...you're doing it wrong.

For the money, they are without peer. One tip - if they shoot well (say a three shot group under an inch) - leave the bedding as is . I have heard that some owners remove the pressure pads inside the fore end tip - and end up screwing the accuracy.

I have a Marlin XS7 in .308. I topped it with a Burris FFII, and for under $400 total, I am happy. I think the rifle will serve you well.

My son and I pooled our resources and bought 4 XS7's (two 7-08s, 243 and 308)and 2 XL7's (270 Win and 25-06)when Cabela's had them on sale for $259.00 each.
Scoped and shot them all. Was not disappointed in accuracy...great value.

Good rifles for the money.
JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

Had one in 308win, loved it - gave it to a good friend as his first big game rifle. It's still shootin right around an inch with most all factory fodder. No bedding, just popped a Elite 3200 3-9 on there and left the pressure pads and lowered the trigger a tad.

The "X" guns are the best gun you could buy in the under $600 class. I have a 30'06 and 308 "X" gun and thay are the most consistantly accurate deer rifles I've ever owned or shot.
Don't let the price fool you. Marlin made an inexpensive gun with expensive features, not a cheap gun like other have done.
I don't drink or Smoke. I spend my money on gunpowder and gasoline.

I think the XS-7 is a perfect choice. Last year I bought the camo version in 7-08, and put a new Redfield 2x7 scope on it- the total price tag was about $450. I am very impressed. It's quite accurate with all factory loads I have tried, and scary accurate with a couple of handloads I came up with. Personally, I would go with a .270,7mm-08,or .308 if I was looking for a general purpose big game rifle.

i was orignaly thinking of getting the .270 but i talked to someone who recamended .243. i thimlk i will go with the .270.
how does the "pro-fire trigger" work? is it adjustable trigger pull?

how does the "pro-fire trigger" work? is it adjustable trigger pull? Mechanically, it works like a Glock trigger and is fully adjustable. Unless the center blade is depressed, the gun won't fire no matter how light you adjust the trigger.
