Does Anyone know anything about Heym rifles. I looked at a used LH .375 today in Cabella's, Pa. Really nice wood in the classic style, express sights, octagon barrel, floorplate, and three position safety. The action is not a controlled round feed and looks like a Mauser 3000 I saw some years ago. A really nice rifle though but $$$$! Smooth action and really good feel but$$$$$! note: I am trying to talk myself out of this one! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

LC, I just cruised thru www.gunsamerica.com and they had a whole page full of them...some pretty expencive. You don't give us much information to work with so you may want to surf there yourself and see what they go for. BT53

Sounds like you were looking at a Heym SR-20 deluxe model. The octagon barrel was found only on the higher grade. The fact that it is left-handed was, IIRC, a $400 added cost. Anyway it is an excellent rifle. It looks like a Mauser 3000 because it basically is an upgraded 3000. Heym made all the Mauser 3000 and 4000 models for Mauser. I have several SR-20 rifles and they have all been very good.

Thanks for the info. This really is a pretty nice rifle. It is very light I would guess about 7lbs. Nice oil finish, appears to be French walnut, horn or ebony forend tip, great express sights. I woud like to try it out to see if it feeds ok, but I doubt they will go along with that. It appears unfired at least I can't see any wear on the bolt and the mount holes still seem to be plugged with the original screws. They are asking $2900.00 (gulp!) So I dont think it's going anywhere soon! I have two .375's and really dont need another one but this is one of the sharpest LH rifes I have seen in a while.

I think New England Custom Guns is still the importer for new Heym rifles. They make doubles, too.

Yes, NECG does import Heym guns but the SR-20 line of bolt action rifles have been discontinued and are no long manufactured I believe. They were replaced by another model and I am not familiar with the replacement rifles. The $2900 is about what the SR-20 LH 375 H&H rifle sold for at new retail ten years ago or so.

Heym is an old German company, founded in 1865 and is still going. They make a full line of combination guns as well as double rifles, both O/U and S/S models. They also make a big magnum express magazine rifle that, at one time at least, could be ordered in 600 NE.

Anyway, they make a good product but, alas, an expensive one.

I have several of the Heyms and such. Back in the mid 70s a place in AZ imported them under the "Mauser Bauer" label. This was the Mod 3000, 3000L[lefty], 4000[small action] They were available in complete rifle, barreled actions and actions only. I got quite a few at that time including 3 of the 375s. All were good shooters and accurate. Only drawback was the firing pins. I had one break luckily under circumstances that were not lif threatening. This is/was the only one I ever heard of though. The complete rifles were/are beautifully made. Good Walnut stocks and smooth actions. Not control feed though. The Heyms are better finished and marked differently too. They bear the SR-20 marks and generally have better blueing, wood etc. Being a lefty I have several left. Even a .222 Rem Heym[lefty] which is a pleasure to carry and shoot. It is more accurate than my Sako 461. I saw one of the Mauser Bauers[3000L] recently on one of the auctions and it went for over 800.00. Might be a good thing to pick up the one you saw if the price is good. Good luck with a GREAT calibre in a great rifle.

I just recieved the Heym catolog from emailing the website Whitetail gave above. Their fare runs from a straight pull bolt (similar in some ways to the Blaser R93) to a more traditional bolt action (and a take-down and a model SR 21 wherein you can exchange the reciever/barrel unit for another) with locking lugs that lock into the reciever to single, double rifles, to drillings and Cape guns. The prices however weren't included but but I'm sure we're talking in the 3-5k and on up range for a single and on up commensurately more for a double rifle, etc. I won't estimate the street price for the bolt actions.

Old World German quality jumps from the pages and photographs though. They tend to light a fire in your belly if you have a desire for something unique, classy and artfull.
