A while back I posted about having problems with flyers with my T/C hawken 50. I appreciate all the helpful tips and I think I found the problem. As I posted I tried a lot of things reduced charge of 777, PRB with over powder patch, 777 and ffg black. 250REAL with reduced load and over powder patch. Cast some new Reals weighed and sorted them, tried 240ge PA conicals with/without over powder patch. Someone mentioned the heavy charge 90gr 777 might cause stripping in the rifleing thad got me to thinking about leading in the barrel. I found some shooters choice and cleaned real good used new brass bore brush and some elbow grease. When I headed to the farm to shoot today it was sunny and 54 degrees, by the time I got ready to shoot the wind picked up 30 to 40mph gusts they say. Set up to shoot 25yd. By now I had some new stuff to try lubed over powder wads, and a 65gr spout for my flask. To cut down on variables I used 65gr 777 for all shots for today. PRB 15 thous. wonder lube patch over powder wad. Showed promise 3in group, but need more work. Pa conicals over powder wad , about like the round ball group or a little worse. Real bulets 252gr with flaws ( I was low on these) 2.5 group. Then finally 255gr reals with no visible flaws ( I only had a few of these) 4 shots into one ragged hole about 1 to 1.5in. This group coincided nicely with most of the flawed reals I had shot earlier. Would love to have tried another group or 2 but that was all the reals I had. I tried some of the flawed bullets at 100yds but the wind was howling out there and they missed the box. I know I need to prove the load further and maybe tweek a bit, also interested to see if I can get the PRB to shoot better. Because of the wind I wasnt able to find any of my patches to check their condition. Ok cast some more Reals get some more 777 and hope for another nice day to shoot. Darn its fun!!!!!
