It'd be pretty tough for a Ruger trigger to malfunction, apart from outright breakage. There just isn't much there to go wrong.

I would pick the Ruger for a rough duty rifle over a Winchester. The Rugers can get just as slick with a little polishing and use over time (or in front of the TV).

I don't have the EW but I do have a Winchester mod 70 Classic stainless and like it well, but I also have a couple of Rugers all in 30-06. I don't see how you could go wrong with any of them. I like the paddle stock and took off the hawkeye stock and put it in a boat paddle. The UL coming is in the original stock. Haven't played with that yet. Don't see how you could go wrong either way, but Alaska is an expensive trip I'd go with the best deal. I've used Rugers for lots of years and had no problems nor has anyone I know.
