I'm new to the forum but decided to join today. I just inherited a Savage Model 99 Series A in .358 Win from my father that has never even been fired and am trying to research some info on it. Manufacture date, value, so on so forth. The serial number is C825678. One part of me wants to shoot it but the other part of me wants to see what I have before shooting. From what I have researched it seems to be a fairly rare model in 99 but I cant testify to the accuracy of what I read. Any experts here? Much appreciated!

Later Model,, Shoot the Darn T Hing, and Not all that Rare,,,Rare Is a 358 R or E.G.
Your rifle was Made in 1976-1977. Welcome to the Forum Steve
Oh by the way value is in the eye of the beholder. Search some of the Gun-Auction's and see what they sell for. They Can Range from 700 to what ever. Pending Condition, and Area of the country. Not Many like a Post Mill gun.-Meaning it was made after the 1 million mark.

They are uncommon and bring a good price, but not exceedingly rare. They were fired at the factory, so saying it's never been fired is a bit misleading. And if you happen to have the hang tags and box, you have a real treat worth some decent $$. If it looks like new, and hasn't been fired.. it'll be worth a bit more than if you fire it. Probably not much, most buyers won't believe it's unfired just because the seller says so. Probably worth just as much as if you say that it's had one box of shells fired. Rifle dates to 1978. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks guys. Thats why I joined the forum, to find out from those that know. I dont have the original box so if it wont hurt to shoot it, I'll test it out on some Montana White tail's and Mule deer.

Speaking from experience, if your dad gives you a 99, go kill somethin with it. It makes it all that much sweeter.
