My unit holds a whopping 13% success rate. And that is including cows.

NM tags have to be submitted by next monday... looked seriously at the Northern part of that state as opposed to Colorado, and if tag draw is unsuccessful, may look at OTC for CO.
What are the units with most # of elk in Northern NM?

I would think with 50-60% success rate on elk the last time I looked it would be hard to overlook units 12 & 13!

Oregonyotebuster--check out Units 12,13&4. I hunt with an outfitter in 12&13 and these units have one of the highest success rates in the state. There is plenty of BLM around Craig, gets crowded but there is a lot of elk and mulies there. Good Luck! Those are units to avoid, and some of the most crowded in the state. In 12 those stats are well padded by hunting on private land when the herds come down off the mountains and are detained on private land by outfitters for paying customers. You can see literally truck loads of elk being hauled out. There is relatively little public land available in 12, the few SWAs, STLs, and NF accesses are heavily hunted (AKA orange army). !3 is similar. 4 does offer more public land but also depends on elk migrating out of Baker's Peak. Best bet around Black mountain. Unit does offer better than average mulie hunting in the sage brush. Haven't hunted there since the blizzards of 08 and 09 though.

A guy informed me if i ever got there, to find a good vanatage point overlooking the sweetwater creek drainage. (he seemed to indicate there were lot's of good vanatage points - units 23 & 12 and use hunter pressure to your advantage...
this tip is from memory, hope i did not mess up unit #.2
