Jeff, I always refer to TLCs as "Land Crushers".

Saw a group of pretty well modified TLCs (newer ones, dunno years but all were four doors) gassing up to head into Mexico on a trail run. Been lusting for one ever since, but until I get the CJ set up how I want it, the Land Crusher will have to wait.

The highways and parking lots are generally mud free. Great Explorer Sport country!
Could be but the logging roads around Plains and Hot Springs didn't have any parking lots.

Well there's your problem. While I can't speak for mud in the south (some friends from the southern reaches of the U.S. talk about how bad it can be) I do know what the mud can be like in the north eastern part of MT. You either have good tires or you don't go. Heck, even with good tires it isn't alway smart to go.

Also, I didn't know Plains and Hot Spring were all over MT.

Listen up smarta$$. I've been all over Montana from the crow reservation to the Flathead reservation, Billings to Missoula up along flathead lake to Glacier. You ain't got mud there compared to what we have here in the East. All I saw was gravel, sand and rock everywhere I looked out there. Here we have predominantly clay soil and we we get waaaay more rain than Montana. Not only that but it takes forever to dry out here after a rain since humidity runs 90% most of the spring/summer. You all can choose to remain ignorant of what can be done with an Explorer or you could go take a look around explorerforums or youtube and educate yourselves. It's up to you. I really don't care but ignorant you are.

What size tires you run on that Explorer?
I don't care how deep the mud is back east, it only takes 6 inches of Eastern Montana gumbo to stop most rigs cold.
Unless you are talking about 400 HP and paddle tires, that is.

Then I suggest you learn how to drive or leave your pickup at home. Like I said, our soil is predominantly clay so I know all about gumbo mud. It's everywhere here and as slippery as bearing grease. Driving through it is an everyday matter anytime you leave pavement. I did get stuck in the mud once last spring but only because I gut hung up on a submerged tree root. As soon as I jacked it up and got free of that root I drove on out of it. The mud was up to my rocker panels for a distance of 30 yards and the consistency of fresh cow manure.

i run the Toyo open country on my truck, got a lot of mileage out of them (over 100k)especially if you have them, siped = small 1/2" slices in the tread, better grip and the run cooler

No chit Sherlock, the mountains aren't known for their mud.

Oh my, stick +100" of snow in your pipe and smoke up!
Does this look like sand and gravel?
You must have some awful tires on the Sport to gain clearance?

Your ignorance is monumental as usual. I'm 40 miles from the nearest mall and 9 miles to the nearest town.

Only 100" of snow ? We've gotten 12' in one storm. The woods are still full of it here, though it is gone from the fields. Never said I was from the Southeast. That mud in your pic looks familiar.

I reckon you'd know about such things. I'd prefer to remain ignorant. What was it I heard about Montana again ? Oh yeah, steers-n-queers.
