Which of the following do you think is more likely to occur in the field...

I have 2 Remington 700s and one rifle built on a 700 action and have never had a problem with a bolt handle or extractor

BUT

I have had 2 Leupold scopes go south but you already knew that would be the answer didnt you

I've been using Rem. 700's since 1967, with scopes and have never had either one happen.

Oh, I certainly have an opinion, just trying to gain some understanding of all the Rem. extractor threads I come across. Not just on this forum BTW.

Remington extractors don't break, so I'd choose B

THAT is FUNNY!!!! LAffin again, thanks swampy.

Still, scope failure is, in my experience, a bit more common. I use Burris Posi Locks on hard use or heavy recoiling rifles for that reason. Loopy's on 25 cal and under for me.

I guess I'm super lucky. I packed two rifles for years worrying about breakage that never happened. Then I started just taking a back up scope sighted in for my rifle but have never needed that neither. I still do that if I'm traveling out of town to hunt.
In fact, even on hunts with several guys, I can't recall a single rifle/scope failure.
A couple of "C" events taught me to carry a bore snake in my pocket and put tape over my muzzle. smile

I only have one R700 and I shoot it a lot with no problems-- lousy trigger per standard. I did have a Cabellas Alaskan scope fail two years ago during muzzleloader season. Crosshairs rotated when I moved the variable position. They replaced it.

Since I have seen both happen,I'd have to say it's a toss up grin

Actually the Rem extractor didn't break.....it pulled through the rim,and left a fired case in the chamber. This happened to a pal after the first shot at a pretty big mule deer buck.

Never seen a Rem extractor "break", per se....only pull through rims.

Had a vaunted Euro scope go kinda buns up on me during a hunt in Alberta....my own fault as the thing was slipping its' moorings from flimsy adjustments and I just did not see it happening.......won't buy one of those again. frown

Another time, a pal came walking down a logging road in New Brunswick.....with no rifle.I inquired where it was(?) confused

He said the ocular lense had fallen out of his Nikon....so it had! That was kinda funny to look through! grin

In truth this stuff is pretty rare.
