Need some help guys. I loaned my S&W book out to a friend, and now I have someone asking me about a date of manufacture. His is a K-22 with a serial number of K91xx. Can someone with one of the S&W books help me out?

What book do you use to find that information?

The "Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson" has some S/N info but it's not absolutely exhaustive. On the older stuff it's pretty good. AFAIK, there is no good source on the web.

Here's one that Left the factory on July 1947. It has the larger style Mushroom shaped extractor rod. They used this style extractor to exhaust the Prewar supply of them, having to Mill out the bottom of the barrel to allow the closing of the cylinder. it is considered a Transitional K-22 and it's serial is a low Four digit sequence....The Smaller style Magna stock's shown in the last Two Picture's are serial numbered to it being original when it left the factory in 1947. General, you always treat us with such beautiful guns. I'd rather shoot a K-22 over any other handgun, I love them that much.

I agree and Like my Model 48's as well. Here is a First year Issue of the Famous Model 48 .22 Magnum that has with it the Optional .22 LR cylinder. This one shipped in December 1959 and that same year was when Winchester Arm's released the .22 W.M.R. Cartridge....Regards, TheGeneral
