Good Afternoon,

I am going to load some 200gr Barnes TSX bullets for the first time to use in my .350 Rem Mag Model 7KS. I have loaded a variety of other bullets for this rifle for several years, but never any Barnes TSX. I went to the Barnes Tech web site and was somewhat surprised to see their recomendation of using IMR 4198 and TAC. As most of you know, these are faster burning powders than the IMR 4320 and RL 15 that I have been using. So I am asking if any of you guys have used TSX bullets with these faster burning powders that Barnes recommends, and what were your results.

Thanks much,
G2

Gramps2:

These were my results with TAC and 200g TSX.....
[img:left][Linked Image][/img]

It did the job on this buck....did not chronograph but it entered just in front of the left rear leg and exited through the front right shoulder....bullet exited and buck traveled about 25-30 yds.

For what it is worth I really like the combination and in my Ruger it produces 3/4-1" three shot groups at 100yds.

Those velocities with the TAC look terrific; if the 200 TSX/TAC combo shoots decently, it looks very hard to beat. BTW, did you notice the barrel length in the test rifle? It was only 20".

Penndog and Syncerus,

Thanks for your replies. I was beginning to think that I was the last man on Earth reloading for the .350 Rem Mag. I loaded some 200gr TSX's using 62grs of TAC, Rem Brass with CCI 250 primer. I crimped just below the first groove, which gave me a COAL of 2.785". If Barnes Tech info is correct, that should give me somewhere between 2800-2850 fps. I plan to go to the range next week.

Syncerus, I did notice, and was pleased to find that Barnes was using a 20" barrel to measure velocity. My KS has a 20" barrel.

PennDog, what was the recipe you used with TAC in your Ruger? And does it have a 20 or 22" barrel?

Thanks much,
G2

I've worked my way up to 63 gr of TAC in my Remington with the 200's. Still working up looking for the sweet spot before messing with seating depth. Running 2.81" ish cause my Remmys short mag box and no where near the lands. I don't have a chrony so I can't give any speed data.

Keep us posted with your progress.

Sir, I was told by quite a few people who I trust that a 35 Whelen has a VERY similar case capacity as the 350 Rem. Mag. I, very carefully tested this theory and found it to not be unsafe.

There seems to be a lot more data available for the 35 Whelen and this has proved helpful to me. Safety first! Work up slowly, every rifle is different, etc, etc...

The powders I've tried with 200 grainers are RL-15, Varget and my favorite, V V N-540.

They are all very close in burn rate and seem to do very well in my 350 Mag. I have a longer MRC 1999 action, longer than normal throat & 24" barrel, so a bit less capacity with the shorter Remington action and it's shorter OAL should be taken into account if attempting to use starting Whelen data.

I have a Ruger 350 Rem Mag with a 22" barrel. With 63 grs of TAC & Federal GM 215M primers, I achieved 2,880 fps and 1.5" groups at 100 yards. I've not yet tried to vary the seating depth to improve accuracy. However, initial results look promising.

That's some pretty impressive velocities. I wonder how TAC would do with regular cup & core bullets. I usually load the 225gr. Sierra's and 200gr.core lokts with RL15.

Taconic11,

I agree TAC really rocks with the 200 TSX. Actually, according to the latest Barnes Manual, 64 grs of TAC (a max load)achieves just over 2,940 fps and Barnes used a 20" barrel for their testing. I did shoot 64 grs of TAC with the 200 TSX but I did not like the accuracy, though I still need to experiment with the seating depth. I've heard that the correct COL is crucial for great accuracy with the TSX in general. I only measured the velocity with my most accurate loading to-date (ie, 63 grs of TAC).

I was tempted to try TAC with my normal hunting bullet in the 350 Rem Mag, which is the Speer 220 gr bullet. However, too much speed with a C&C bullet is not necessarily a good thing. So, I don't think I'll try that. Actually, using either IMR 4320 or H322 will get me about 2,560 fps in my 350 Mag with the Speer 220 gr. and accuracy is quite good. The bullet at that velocity has worked well on deer. One other reason I don't think I'm going to try this is because I stick solely to the data contained in Reloading Manuals. I'm not the adventureous type, besides the fact that I'm fairly new to reloading and I don't feel comfortable venturing out on my own. This obviously only applies to me, since I'm sure there are experienced and knowledgeable reloaders who do this safely.

Anyway, like I said, the 200 TSX and TAC shows definite promise in my 350 Rem Mag. If I'm ever forced to hunt with a solid copper bullet, I'm going to tweak this combination.

This is an old thread, but I'd like to add that my current load is a 200 gr Hornady spire-point over a modest load of IMR 3031 for a velocity of 2700 fps-ish by the manual. Since I'm shooting hogs over feeders at 60-90 yards, there's no need for any more speed. The .350 RM / M673 combination is a great real world hunting set up.

I totally agree with this assessment. The neat thing about 35 calibers in general is that there is no real need for demon speed (I'm a poet at heart). The combination of the Speer 220 gr bullet and sedate speeds have worked very well for me thus far.

Bringing this back up because I ran 63.5 gr TAC behind 200 TSX's for my first one hole group with my 350. Also ran 63.8 for a 1" group. Recoil is right smart!

Barnes lists 64.0gr as max. 63.0gr TAC gave me heavy bolt lift and brass flow into the ejector today. Approx 78 degrees f in a Rem 700 Classic. Going to back down a notch or two. Didn't have my chrono unfortunately.

Just fyi.

Any updates using TAC in the .350 RM? Thought I would pull this thread up again.

I ran the Barnes load through Quickload.

First of all, QL is showing 60.0 grains of TAC as being a compressed load @ 104.6% capacity.
Maximum safe load is around 56.4 grains. Velocity running 2701 fps. Chamber pressure is 57,638

At 60.0 grains, chamber PSI is 70,849!

Does anyone have a real world report on this load? I would be scared to run what barnes has published with a minimum load of 58.0 grains going to 64.0 maximum. They also list the COAL @ 2.780" How can you get that much powder in the case?

I really want to try this load out, but would love to hear from those running it before I start load development.

I shot 62.0 grains of TAC with various 225-grain bullets and 59.0 with 250-grain Partitions in two different .350's (Ruger 77 Mark II and Remington 700 Classic) and the velocities and accuracy were great in both.

With 200's there some other powders are as good in the .350, but with 225's and 250's TAC is about the best powder I've tested.

It's also about as good as it gets in that rare but fantastic wildcat on the .350 case, the 9.3mm Barsness-Sisk.

John, have you had a chance to play with the .358 200 TTSX yet?

John, I imagine that you were able to seat the bullets a lot further out than 2.80" in both of those rifles? Were you at 100% capacity with the 62.0 grain load?
