I do not hunt the NF but do hunt the area on the river just north of lake lanier. Beautiful country. Rut seems to run a little later than typical. Find acorns and cover and you will see deer. Dont expect a monster but hunting the steep terrain is fun

Not enough to worry about but know the seasons and maybe you will get lucky

Our hunting is all about the acorn crop as our property is all hardwoods along the river bordered on the other side by pine plantation and clearcut.

A good acorn crop and deer are everywhere. No acorns and it almost isnt worth going - have to find a grown up clearcut and hunt the edge

Just checked my hunt notes from last year - rut turned on like a switch the morning of nov 13 - after not seeing much of anything the previous day i had 3 racked bucks trail a doe right by me and scrapes appeared everywhere overnight

Good luck - havent been down to our place since mid december. Hunting the big woods once the leaves are down is awesome

It'd be nice to get a chance at a bear but the main goal is getting away for a week or so and maybe taking some game. Thanks shortmagfan. Your advice is appreciated.

Mull is right. I looked at a map and had forgotten how far south of the NF our place is. The farther north you go in georgia the more you will get into mountains and bears.

Mull, what counties are you in? Our place is in northeast hall county. Guessing you are lumpkin or white
