I'm going to pic up some more ammo for my 270 Win and found a pretty good deal on some Federal Fusion.

I usually shoot Rem Core-Lokt and Federal Power-Shok 130gr ammo but thought the Fusion might be a good alternative. So, if you've tried the 270 Win 130gr Federal Fusion, I'd like to hear your experience on the accuracy and bullet integrity.....thanks!

No. 270 experience, my partner has a semi custom. 338 federal that likes fusion better than any handload he's cooked up. The bullet seems to do well on hogs and deer.

Go Big Red!
Most accurate in my 2 rifles! sako75 300wsm and L61R 7mm. Cheaper then most other premium bullets. I have shot 3 deers (2 muleys & 1 Blacktail) from 100 yds to 450 yds. All DRT! This summer shot 2 hogs at about 40 yards and one at 200 yards. DRT!

I've run Fusion a bunch in 7-08, quite a bit in 270, 25-06 & 243 on deer and hogs.

They have performed well - almost always exiting with good, but not excessive expansion.

They have been very accurate in a variety of rifles, as well.

IMHO, it is probably the most consistently accurate factory ammo going, and is an excellent choice for deer sized game.

The only non exit I've had on a deer was with another person shooting my 25-06. It was under the hide on the off side after a shot which angled through the off shoulder, but the jacket had separated and it had lost half its weight. There was tall grass and may have been some light brush near her shoulder at the shot, and I suspect it clipped something just before it hit her. Still killed her within 75-100 yards, but no blood trail.

Every 7-08 and 270 has exited on deer, although some closer shots on big hogs through both shoulders have stopped a few.

They have at times been so accurate that I've had a hard time loading something better. Kind of tickles and irritated me, at the same time...grin.

I've also had a hard time besting it with handloads. 2009 I shot a Neb. buck that weighed 220lbs with 130gr Fusion 270Win. Buck was angling toward me at 20 paces when I pulled the trigger. I was shooting slightly up toward him from a ravine. Bullet entered front shoulder and exited other side behind the lungs. He dropped like hit by lightning and never twitched. I was very impressed with the penetration being that close and that fast of bullet. Very good ammo. Burns clean too. Almost no powder fouling at all. Both 270 Win. I tried it in were under .75" consistently. Several groups in the .4's and .5's. with the Browning X-Bolts.

I've only used them on two deer, both last year and both were pretty dead.

Why change, you're already shootihg the best in the world ... smile smile

I've used Fusion ammo in the 270's bigger siblings, 280 & 30-06 & the 7-08. All with good results ... no reason to believe 270 would be any different.

Podunk, do we know each other??? I have a semi custom 338 Fed that shoot sub moa groups with fusions. Only recently worked up a good handload or two.

Fusion's will handle just about any deer in NA and if you limit your range and put the bullet in the right spot, will put the hurt on elk (although a 130 grn 270 might be a little light). I got only slight less penetration than a partition on water jugs, Fus 5 vs. Part 6.

I'm with DJTex on this one, 130gr. Fusions have out shot all my attempted handloads in my .270.

That's definitely some high praise for Fusion ammo......guess I'll have to give it a try!!

One more thing, does anyone know what bullet they use for the 270 Win? I can't find any details on it other than it's a bonded bullet.....

I have tried it in a 7mm-08,308 and 7mm Rem mag. They shoot great for factory ammo..have not had a chance to try it on game yet.

I killed a big mature buck a few years ago with 130gr Fusions. Made a believer outa me. Those bullets are tough as nails and super accurate.

Deer was quatering toward me at about 80 - 100yds away. The bullet drove through the shoulder bone, passed through the heart and a lung, exited near the last rib. That buck just took a nose dive into the dirt.

Well I shot a bit of it in my Blaser R-93 7mm Remington Mag. 150 gr bullets. It works fine on the game I have so far shot with it. Its good ammo.

Gentlemen, please.....

I have good results with Fusion accuracy and many of my friends too. From all accounts a great deer bullet but not a tough bullet for larger game. In this case don't think that bonded puts it in the same league as Trophy Tip, A-Frame, Accubond, Interbond, etc.

Ive shot hundreds of 130 Fusions out of my 270win. My girlfriend wont shoot anything else out of her 270 also. My little sister had good luck with 120gr Fusions in her 7mm-08 and Im going to try them in my new 7-08 this weekend. IMO best bang for the buck as far as factory ammo.

I'm a big fan of the Federal Fusions. In a semi auto 30-06 Browning BAR I had, I couldn't get it to shoot decently with any ammo. I'm talking 3" groups with Federal Power Shok and about 4-6" groups with everything else. I finally found the Fusions and to my surprise they shot 1.5" all day long. It was the only ammo I ever got to shoot halfway decent in that gun. I even tried some handloads and never found any that accurate in it. I only shot one deer with it and it was about 150-170 yards and it hit the ground as soon as I shot and never moved again. I did notice it didn't do much damage. It was a small hole going in and a small one coming out. I can't complain though since the deer didn't go anywhere. That's the only gun I've ever tried them in, but I was super impressed. Only thing I don't like is the price. They seem a little pricey for the type of bullet they are, but they aren't too bad price wise.

Not 270, but 243. The wife has shoot 4 deer with the 95gr fusion. Recover 2 bullets of 4 and they hold up very well. A nice mushroom and very high weight retension.

GOOD stuff.
