What rod do you guy's like for throwing spinners on larger streams. In some instances in some faster water,
I fished last weekend with a 10 foot noodle rod and while I caught a decent amount of fish I lost quite a few on poor hook sets.Please indicate weight,length and action.

I like a med heavy 7'6" stiff fast action rod (some would say a light steelhead rod). It will cast the bigger baits a good distance and usually help on the hook set.

What kind of fish?

What part of the country?

Trout,not particularly large.10 inches to 18 inches is a good range of size. New York State. There are area's of this stream that are 50 to 60 yards wide and there is a pretty decent water flow in a lot of area's from a speed perspective. Just looking for a rod that's enables me to get some decent casting distance and some good hook sets.

For that kind of fishing I like a Medium wieght 6'6" rod with a medium fast action. Too slow of an action makes accurate casts troublesome.

In that circumstance I like a 7' med or med light fast action graphite spinning rod and 4 lb test mono. If that's not heavy enough for your tastes - 6 lb line max. It's what I've used on large rivers out west for trout and smaller steelhead for many years.

I prefer fishing 4 lb line and paired with a reel with a good drag I've caught steelhead up to 12 lbs. 5 to 8 lb steelies day in and day out is no problem with a set-up like that.

A couple of years ago I added another rod to the collection that IMO would be perfect. It was an inexpensive Quantum Affinity 7' 2 piece AFS702MA IM7 graphite rated for 6 to 14 lb line. It fishes well with 4 or 6 lb line. It's not a current production rod but heres' a link if you want to buy one. Good price on it too. FWIW, I know nothing about the retailer/website - good or bad.
