I've inherited a nice little youth gun, a Winchester 67A .22, but I can't seem to find a serial number anywhere on the gun. It ain't on the barrel, near as I can tell. And it isn't on the stock, or under the butt plate. Can anyone tell me where it will be. Thanks.

I have 2 and neither one has a serial number; no serials numbers

From Proofhouse website

Not serially numbered. Introduced in 1934, discontinued in 1963. A total of 383,587 were made when the parts clean up began. About 2,100 guns were assembled in the final parts cleanup.

BigM,

Prior to the GunControl Act of 1968, Manufacturers were not required to serialize all firearms. Many manufacturers of utility (i.e: inexpensive) rifles and shotguns just didn't bother.

Correct.

I have handled a couple of Winchest M290 semi auto 22 rifles
in the last few months and neither had serial numbers on them.

Probably made prior to 1968, then? I believe they ran from '65 to the early or mid '70s?

After GCA '68, everything was required to be serial numbered for identification purposes.

Pays to be careful with such in jurisdictions that require registration. Folks in such places will sometimes apply ad hoc serial numbers as part of the registration process in a particularly ugly fashion.

I have handled older Remington bolt action 22 rifles that
had the serial number on the barrel in front of the fore end
of the stock. Very easy to miss.

Many 22's made before 1968 did not have a serial number.
