Think this one would ever be chambered in a 336 or the new 464 Mossberg?

The SAAMI pressure is to high to chamber in the 336 or 464. It could be handloaded to reduced pressure for those rifles but the factories will never offer it.

The 338 Federals SAAMI of 62,000 PSI is way to much for the traditional leverguns..They were all tried as a prototype for the 454 Casull Leveraction and all failed at that pressure. There is the 338 Marlin Express at only 47,500(?) PSI similar to Jack O'Connors... 338x57 O'Connor... Sometime after World War II Jack O'Connor, the Dean of American gun writers, proposed a new .33 caliber cartridge. He wanted to drive a 200 grain flat point or round nose bullet at a muzzle velocity (MV) of 2400-2450 fps. He felt that this would make an excellent brush cartridge for the deer and black bear hunter, particularly if available in a repeating rifle that offered quick follow-up shots.
O'Connor had done a series of brush penetration tests and discovered that the .348 Winchester performed well, but kicked pretty hard for a deer cartridge. O'Connor's concept was a medium bore cartridge with moderate recoil that the average woods and brush hunter could use for shooting deer, feral hogs, black bear and possibly elk. Jayco

I had this 88 rebored into a 338-08, just necked up a 308 to accept 338 bullets, I can shoot 338 Federals through it but it likes my hand loads better. The first 338 Fed I heard of was actually 338/08 built on a Winchester 88. I liked the idea so much that I bought a Win 88 with a ring in the barrel under the front sight just to convert it to 338/08. I made the mistake of shooting it before the conversion and 15 or so years later it is still a 308 Winchester.

Just get a Winchester 94AE in .356 Winchester and be done with it! That would be the Big Bore 94. The only ones available on GB are caliber 375 Win, and one 307. There is one Marlin 336 ER if you wanna pay $1200. Winchester 88s are priced like they're gold plated, and Sako Finnwolfs are heavier than a dead preacher. I say, just get the Marlin 338 express and be done with it for about $600.

FWIW, a year or so ago, I spoke to Jesse Ocumpaugh at JES Reboring about reboring/rechambering a Savage 99 in 300 Savage to 338 Federal, but he advised against doing it, as he had done a couple of them and the owners were seeing signs of high pressure with factory ammo. www.35caliber.comI have a Marlin 336 SD that Regan Nooneman rechambered from 35 Rem to 356 Win and like it. I can use either 356 rimmed or 358 rimless brass to feed it. Very deadly on deer with the 180 grain Speer FP and based on the penetration that I'm gotten from the 220 grain Speer FPs, I think that they would be perfect for anything bigger/tougher. JEff

Do you know of what you speak? I am reading about problems with pressures in Sav 99's bored out from .308 to .338. BLR's are much stronger.
My comment was meant to purchase the .325WSM as an alternative.
Just because that a cartridge is blown out from a mother case does not make it safe to shoot in all the guns made for the mother case.
