I shoot a fair amount of 300 H&H ammo out of 3 different rifles. They all shoot very well with Federal Premium 180 Grain Partitions but the ammo is getting very expensive. Does anyone know where I can find the "recipe" for that load? I have over 500 rounds of brass that I would like to load the same as that facory ammo. Anyone know where I could find it?

I found a lot of good data in Ken Waters pet load book.

I've had great luck with 71g of RL22 and 180 TTSX's @3050 fps.

Thanks guys. I have some recipes but I was just trying to reproduce that Federal load. My no. 1 and 721's just love that load and it performs well on the critters.

OK, then You can chrono those factory loads and H-4831 SC will get you there w/ the 180's as well. Its a very stable powder for hunting in all temps, my old H&H supergrade loves that powder.

I've had great luck with 71g of RL22 and 180 TTSX's @3050 fps. That is EXACTLY my load, cci-250 primers. and it WORKS. Sub half MOA Pre-war 64 Mod 70

My #1S Ruger really likes 71 gr/IMR 4350, Fed 215M, 165 gr Nosler Accubond, Nosler brass. Tried several combinations w/ other powders/bullets, this was by far the best.

Thanks guys. I have some recipes but I was just trying to reproduce that Federal load. My no. 1 and 721's just love that load and it performs well on the critters. Pull a bullet, look at the powder, weigh it and see what matches up. Problem is, factory ammo often uses non-canister powders or blends that aren't available to us. There is basically no NEW 300 H&H data available from any of the main manufacturers. It is apparently not worth their time and money to develop loads for a mostly dead cartridge. What there is, however, is lots of new data for the 300 WSM and I have had good luck using that data for the 300 H&H. If you want to load a 300 H&H with Mag Pro or R17 or whatever other new boutique powder on the market, your best resource is 300WSM data.

Yep. Dennis is spot-on in every way.
Most (but not all) factory ammo uses powders handloaders can't get. This doesn't mean they're all that different, or "magic," just that they aren't quite the same as what we can buy.
The .300 H&H and .300 WSM are extremely similar in case capacity. In fact a gunsmith friend of mine ran an experiment with the same barrel rechambered from .300 H&H to .300 WSM and got essentially identical results with the same powder charges and bullets, and he was not only testing velocity but pressure with a strain-gauge system.

Wow, you drug this up??
I am taking my 300 H&H to Africa next month. I know it isn't the classic load but I really like the 150 Partition golds in that rifle. Between that and my 458 I should have all my bases covered adequately.

I shoot 150 partitions in mine also. They kill deer and pigs deader than hell.

I've tried many bullets in my Model 70 .300 H&H but almost all were in the 165-200 grain range. About half displayed very good accuracy, but none have matched the Barnes 150 TTSX BT with H4831. I've only done preliminary work so far and I'm not a fan of light bullets in .300 magnums, but I intend to verify initial results with this bullet soon. I tried this bullet in a Remington 700 5R in .300 Winchester Magnum with H4350. The Barnes also shot very well in it.
The 200 gr. Sierra GK has been a close second to the Barnes in both rifles.
Never got much better than mediocre accuracy with the 150 Barnes in any .308 or .30-06.
